Erin is an awesome host. The food was great. There was a large party going on, but the atmosphere remained calm and quiet.
I was looking forward to write a positive and uplifting review, but they automatically added a gratuity. This single act cost a five star review and Erin an honest $8 more on her tip.
It's dishonest to automatically add a gratuity.

TLDR: Cozy, country-style spot with friendly service and traditional food. The automatic 20% tip might be a dealbreaker for some.

Review for Old Whitten Tavern

Food: The menu sticks to traditional country flavors. The hashbrowns were good, though I prefer a layer of crunch, and these were soft throughout. The eggs were cooked perfectly and came with cheese as I ordered. The biscuits were thin, flat, and basic in flavor, but the country gravy had a good texture with a simple, satisfying taste. The pancake was generously sized (about 10 inches across and 1/2 inch thick) with a soft and chewy texture, though it lacked much flavor on its own. Thankfully, the syrup complemented it well. Overall, the food gives off a "like grandma used to make" vibe, focusing on simplicity over bold flavors.

Service: The service was excellent. All the staff pitched in to check on me, ensuring I was taken care of. The friendliness added to the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. However, the establishment automatically adds a 20% tip to each dine-in order, regardless of the service quality. While you can add more, it feels a bit rigid—good service should earn a good tip, not have it guaranteed.

Atmosphere: The country vibe is undeniable. The interior features dark ceilings, tables, and floors, with moderate lighting during the day that feels slightly dim but cozy. With one booth and about 17 tables inside, the spacing is comfortable without feeling crowded. The outside seating allows dogs, making it a good option for pet owners. The full bar and all-day breakfast menu add to its versatility, whether you’re stopping by for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. However, with only one private bathroom per gender, the morning coffee rush could be challenging.

Summary: Old Whitten Tavern offers a solid country breakfast experience with traditional flavors and a welcoming atmosphere. While the food and service were good, the automatic 20% tip policy might not sit well with those who feel tipping should reflect service quality. Still, it’s a cozy spot worth visiting, especially if you’re seeking classic, no-frills breakfast options.

Parking: The parking lot is shared with multiple other businesses, so during heavy traffic times it could be tough to find a spot near the restaurant.

Kid-friendliness: Though it has a full bar, it is very kid friendly. The bar area is smaller, opening up more to the dine in experience.

We have enjoyed Old Whitten Tavern for years. All of the food we have tried on their menu is wonderful, but our go-to favorite is the Bonnie Melt. Great food, service, and phenomenal mixed drink menu. If you are a cocktail enthusiast, definitely check them out. They are also family friendly with options for everyone on their menu.

Food was good but when they pretip themselves 20%, kinda of turns me off, probably would have gotten more because service was good but, it was just 2 of us, I understand if it was a big party, I've waited tables and bartended, never heard of adding a.tip for a 2 top!

They have great food and service. My only complaint is the salad prices. It cost me $18.00 for a grilled chicken Ceaser. Although it was absolutely great tasting, not worth that much money. Now that price was it 20% gratuity.

I tip well, but bringing my bill with a 20% tip already applied and charged is fraud. If the service is bad you might get 15% for instance. You presuming your service was entitled to 20% and running it before I sign the check? No. Nope. Won't be back. You stole that tip.

Breakfast is good. I usually order over medium well eggs to make sure the egg whites are completely cook, I prefer over medium. They will cook the eggs to order, But sometimes the egg white is softer than I order. I love there hash browns. They have good bacon and will cook bacon limp if you ask them. I order sliced tomatoes with my breakfast. The tomatoes are good, but cut a little thin. You get 2 slices of tomato for a $1.00. service is excellent. Servers are polite and nice and they never let me run out of tea. I like my tea unsweetened with a splash of sweet and the servers have gotten to know how I like my tea. Have dinner for the first time on a Wednesday nighttime at Old Whitten Tavern, I was very disappointed in my meal. I ordered the grilled pork chop with green beans and corn and the meal came with apple sauce and Texas toast. The pork chop was very dry and was somewhat burnt and had a burnt taste the green beans tasted like they were straight out of the can with the juices from the can. I would recommend when they cook green beans dump the juice in the can out and rinse the green beans and cook the green beans in water with seasoning. I was really surprised how bad my dinner was when breakfast is usually good. The only good things about my dinner were the corn, apple sauce, and Texas toast. I'm willing to give them another try at dinner again. Also at breakfast the server always asks me how my breakfast was, but the server didn't ask me how my dinner was .
