Moving reviews over from Yelp and loved this place when we were there in 2017:
This was the barbecue meal we had on our long weekend in Memphis. It was nothing short of spectacular!
A few really important things up front:
1. Bring cash!
2. You're going to carry the beautiful smell of their smoke with you for several hours - dress accordingly.
3. Don't expect any frills - you're there for the smoked meat.
This is a hole-in-the-wall family owned and staffed place in a sketchy neighborhood. That said, it is a place you NEED to go if you're from out of town and on the prowl for some fine smoked meat.
Their menu is simple. How simple? About 4 items simple...chopped pork, ribs, bologna and sausage. There are some sides but unless my memory is failing me that's it. No brisket, no burnt ends, no poultry of any kind. And that's alright moma, yeah, that's alright by me!
I had a miniscule bite of the ribs and found them to be flavorful, smoky and moist. They belonged to Kid 2 and she's pretty protective of her ribs so I can't render more of an opinion than that.
I had their chopped pork sandwich, regular size, with hot bbq sauce. The sandwich comes on a large bun that in no way manages to contain the pile of meat heaped upon it. There is a smaller pile of their mustard slaw served atop the meat as well. Yep, get a fork.
The meat was chopped pretty uniformly which made it easier to eat. I really liked the amount of bark that was mixed in and the extra sweetness and slight crunch in each of those bites. The meat itself was something to behold. Tender, juicy and moist enough to make it a pleasure to eat. The great smoky flavor permeated into the meat beyond the bark. I'm not usually one who likes my slaw on my sandwich but in this case it really worked. The vinegary zip of the yellow mustard really did bring out even more flavor from the meat, something I didn't think possible.
Yep, this is a place you NEED to try when you're in Memphis.

I was told to try this place because they have some of the best Bar-B-Q. Well, I ordered a half slab for $22. It was definitely wasn't fall off the bone ribs. It was actually crispy like fried chicken and extremely tough and chewy.

My niece brought me here when I returned to Memphis. This was the best barbecue I ever had in my life. I can still taste it 15 yrs later. They would make a killing if they opened another shop in Vermont. Oh but it wouldn't ever be the same . Southern pigs are feed different.

Da baked beans best i ever had im on my way now hope dey open but my last der was ok cuz I usually just get the beans but whenever I order a sandwich I ask 4 my slaw on da side but clearly somebody wasn't listening but it's ok

The rib tips was not the Payne's that I had before. I didn't taste any seasoning on the meat, the cole slaw was yellow and bitter, and the baked beans was just beans. For the cost I was expecting a lot better. This is just my opinion.

One of the best BBQ joints in the country. Ultra laid back. No frills, very relaxed atmosphere. Owners and staff are so friendly, and passionate about their food. Smoked pork is unreal, and sauces complement it beautifully. There aren't many places like this around anymore. Cherish it!

The best BBQ in the Memphis area

Might be the best BBQ sandwich in the world. The mustard slaw with the medium sauce is perfect on the jumbo chopped sandwich. They don’t do fries, chips instead, but skip that and get a bologna sandwich as your side.

I was really disappointed with this meal. The presentation was sloppy, and honestly, the food looked more like dog food than something served to customers. The ribs were drenched in sauce with no care for appearance, the sides looked unappetizing, and overall it didn’t give the impression of a quality BBQ plate. For the price and expectations, I was hoping for something that not only tasted good but at least looked decent when served.

A genuine cultural experience. In my opinion this place IS Memphis. It’s fantastic. Do not change anything.

The pork was good the sauce it came with was too sweet for my liking. Beans were nothing to write home about. Cole slaw was a mustard based slaw that was a first ever for me, again not to my liking. Was definitely authentic hole in the wall. I guess you must be from here to really appreciate.

The restaurant didn’t feel very clean, which made it a little uncomfortable to relax and enjoy the meal. The food also seemed questionable in terms of freshness and quality, and unfortunately, it just wasn’t what I expected.
