Best catfish i’ve ever had and Al is very welcoming and proud of his business! We will be back for sure!!
Big Al is the type of friendly that makes you go back to a place regardless of how good the food is. But the food alone makes you come back. Overall it is great little restaurant that I would recommend highly to anyone that is in Nashville.
We used Big Al as the caterer for our wedding and honestly could not have expected how exceptional the entire experience was. Big Al took care of it all, literally, he went out of his way to make it seamless. The food is phenomenal, on top of that, we had so many entree choices and sides for far cheaper than the typical upcharged wedding caterer as he doesn’t believe in charging extra. Thank yall so much !

Best home cooked breakfast! Period! Service was excellent and felt like I was invited into someone's kitchen at home. Can't wait to go back to try lunch. Might have to wait a bit to get in, but worth it!

We had our 1st, but definitely not our last, meal at Al’s on October 8th.
That was the absolutely Best Omelette I’ve ever had!
It was also the biggest!
It feeds 4 people easily; it had broccoli, mushrooms, bell peppers , cheese , shrimp! -it was so flavorful and full of yummy goodness.
We also had chicken and waffles, pancakes , potatoes, bacon , shrimp & grits….yasssssss- we are breakfast people and food driven !
Visit Al’s and you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic meal!

Not exactly sure what's in the pancakes but they were gritty. I've been burping the bacon all day. Husband's egg whites were runny and we were served cold coffee as soon as the doors opened! Potatoes were seasoned well and Al's daughter was sweet and trying her best. We should have walked away but stuck it out due to 4.7 review. Sorry we did that.

Incredible, this is hands down one of the best restaurants in Nashville and I'd even venture to say this is one of the best places to eat in America PERIOD. It is the definition of charming southern soul food. Home cooked meals made from scratch with love in an old family home on the north side of nashville. When you go to big Al's you're greeted by Al's son who will sit you down in the dining room where you can easily see Al in the kitchen (yes Al himself does all the cooking) and you're filled with a sense of nostalgia. After dining there I find myself wishing all restaurants could be like this, Id easily trade in the overly steril world of "fine dining" for a collection of amazing hidden gems like Al's. 10 out of 10 we will be coming back every time we are in nashville, big Als' is worth the trip alone!!

Al catered for my book club and his food is amazing! So well seasoned and delicious! Al is also such a wonderful and warm person and I’m so grateful to have met him and gotten a chance to try his food. I will definitely be ordering from Al for all of my events!

Some dang good food, don't miss out on this little place. Parking is slim and the place fills up fast,so get there early. The jerk chicken was awesome .I hear the breakfast is the best, can't wait to try it. I had to get carry out because all seats were taken, but it was worth it

On the day I was there with my son and his girlfriend, Big Al was managing the grill and his son was running the tables (4-5 tables and a few counter seats); it’s a small space and Al chatted with everyone while he cooked. Food was great, rolled biscuits were substantial and tasty. That’s what got my attention: when I was ordering the standard two egg breakfast with meat, potatoes, and either toast or a biscuit, I started to ask for rye toast and was TOLD I needed to get the biscuit! The gravy was too hot for me, as we were warned, and everything else was great.
It’s not a restaurant for atmosphere, unless you like sketchy diners (as I do) but it’s a great place for breakfast.
