I don’t usually do this but I had to come and write a review. I’m not from around here but on my way back home (Chicago). I was told that Nashville had good fish sandwiches! Someone recommended that I try this place and I did. First issue was the older guy kind of act like he didn’t wanna be there, let alone take my order. I asked for double fries cause I didn’t want to try any of the other sides and be disappointed! They (barely gave me fries!) I just gave them to my son! To top it off, when he brought me my food, the bag smelled foul!!!! Like to the point where I had to open the box real quick just to make sure it wasn’t the fish smelling like that! I couldn’t even eat it! I’m not for shaming my people but I feel like yall could have done a better job, ALL IN ALL! 21.86 down the drain!

Rude service. Unprofessional. Chicken is honestly unpalatable. Looks like a bar food tender with powdered seasoning and it’s diabolically hot to the point the flavor is completely lost it’s just physically hot. Cheap luckily so I didn’t miss out too much. Wouldn’t recommend chicken. Maybe other stuff is good just not that.

The fish and chicken is pretty good. I think the sides need a little work. Reason. I gave a three star Is every time I go there I'm asked every 5 minutes. What vehicle am I driving or what vehicle are the people I'm with driving. Really agitating can't really enjoy your time there.

Terrible dry overcooked chicken. Bland flavor. The owner is not friendly. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere, there are much better options available!

Dry overcooked chicken. The seasoning was bland. There are much better options available, do yourself a favor and move along. Owner was also not friendly to say the least, definitely will never return.
The people that run this place are so petty and rude for absolutely no reason. The food tasted like their terrible attitudes, thanks.

Don’t judge a book by its cover! This place is a quaint. It has some tables so you can dine in if you don’t want to take your food to go. The line moves quickly.
I chose the chicken tenders and they were crispy, moist, and SPICY. I love heat and can handle it, but their spicy scales are definitely not for the faint of heart. I got the medium. Listen and trust their recommendations.
I chose a plate, which included the tenders, potato salad and baked beans. The baked beans were sweet but not overwhelming molasses/sweet tasting as is in other spots in Nashville. The mac and cheese and fries (latter seemed to be just your regular frozen crinkle cut fries) and they were both decent, nothing to write home about. I would stick to the potato salad and baked beans.

I was hoping to get some real good hot chicken after I landed in Nashville, it's been about 8 years so my craving needed to be itched. Easy to find, plenty of parking. Good seating outside. The folks were friendly, and quick.
Sadly, my chicken breast quarter was a little leaner than I would have liked, and even though I had the hottest spice level, it didn't come close to where I would think it should be. The seasonings were tasty, and it was good and crispy, and all those crispy bits were excellent when I put em in the beans. I think it was a little pricey for what I got, but it'll do me fine until I'm back in town after a week. I'm thinking it was an off day, but it is what it is. Not bad, but nothing to write home about.

This spot is one where you don't judge the book by its cover. While the outside is a bit run down, none of that matters cause we're here for the food. Walking into the shop, you see that it's a hole in the wall vibe. For me, my first thought was, "Yeah, this food boutta slap." It's a small space with no flashing lights or fancy signs to try and distract you from the reason you're here. You walk up to a window to place your order and sit down to wait, first come first serve. The orders are placed quickly and after a minimal wait, the food was brought out and it was definitely fresh. My friend and I split an order of tenders and a whiting sandwich as we were going around trying a couple different hot chickens in nashville. The chicken tenders, while good, I thought were a bit dry. The spices (we got medium) were very flavorful and the heat definitely had the taste buds scorching. However, I think the standout at Boltons is the fish. If I were to come back, that would be the thing to get again. Better chicken can be had in nashville, but that hot fish was something special. The whiting was cooked to perfection, the breading was crisp, and the fish was so succulent. The spices were still great on the fish and the bread it was served with helped to tame the heat (mild). GET THE FISH!! One thing, though, Bolton heat is a bit higher than other places, so I would be very careful when deciding your spice level. Overall, I enjoyed the simple layout of the place, and the amazing fish. It was nice eating in a laid back atmosphere, and felt welcomed by the staff. Gotta hit this place up if you come through Nashville solo or with a smaller group

Stay far away from this place. This doesn’t even look like a restaurant. It looks like a dirty underground room and smells terrible.

Man I heard so much about this place. Maybe my expectations were way too high. The man running the place was awesome. He recommended medium. For an average consumer yes, but I could take it up a notch. The bread was not white bread which I found odd. I ordered the leg thigh quarter and they served me a breast leg quarter. Not a huge deal, but the breast's taste was off. It was not very good. The leg was fine. I should have tried the fish I hear it's the best around. Would I go back? Yes. Is it the best hot chicken in Nashville, no.

Was wanting to try authentic Nashville hot chicken and fish but felt very underwhelmed here. Ordered both the hot fish and hot chicken. They were all spice but no other flavors at all. The batter was not that really crispy/coated batter that you look for either. Really wanted to love this place and support small business, but unfortunately this was a miss for me.

I have been eating Boltons chicken for 49 years. Today I ordered three mild chicken breasts. The chicken breasts tasted of fish, were tough as leather, and extremely small with hardly any white meat. For $10 each one would think they would use large chicken breasts in unused oil. I have been very disappointed of Boltons for the past two visits. I had hoped that the first bad order would have been corrected over a few months ago but that is not the case. Bolton and his wife would be ashamed of what they are serving now. I have to say that I am.
