In a few months, when you wonder why Dicey’s went out of business, remember this review.

On my drive home from work, I called to place a large takeout order for a pre-Christmas party at my house. I was told, rudely, that Dicey’s does not take orders over the phone. Not that they can’t, but they won’t. So, because the server or hostess Is too lazy to write down an order, the restaurant lost $200 or so worth of business tonight and any business, I might spend their way in the future. What a shortsighted and ignorant way to run a restaurant.

Don’t bother ordering takeout from Dicey’s. Go to Pizza Perfect instead,, like I did.

Unfortunately, this is the perfect example of a 21st Century bar and restaurant with good food and good intentions, but their reliance on systems and technology kills the whole experience. I called the number listed for Dicey's, but it was literally impossible to get an actual human being on the phone. There was an AI agent that did nothing but refer me to their website over and over, and then eventually I got to a voice recording -- no mailbox, mind you, just a recording -- that did little more than explain where not to park in the neighborhood over and over. So instead, I went there myself just as they opened on Saturday (11:00) to say that I was hosting a holiday party for my company and wanted to place a large carry-out order for later in the evening. My hope was that this would be helpful so they could prepare accordingly and not get their kitchen overrun during a busy time. It's an understatement to report that the multiple members of the staff I dealt with in person did absolutely nothing to help make this happen for me, and it almost felt like they were actually trying NOT to help me. I was told to just order delivery through UberEats, but I wasn't too keen on that idea since I've had issues before with big orders being canceled at the last minute with no explanation -- I wasn't going to risk that when needing to feed 15-20 people. Then I was told to simply order through their website about half an hour in advance, but to be sure to break my one large order into several small orders for reasons that were never truly explained to me. I said to the guy, "I tried to call earlier, but nobody bothered to answer." Without an ounce of embarrassment, he said that calling the place was a crap shoot. "Look, I'm here. I'll pay you right now. Can you just drop this order at 6:00 and then I'll come pick it up around 6:30?" No, he couldn't do that. "Can I ask why?" It's above his pay grade. "Can I talk to someone who's on that pay grade? No, he's in Chicago. This guy just has keys to the place and can't make a real decision. "Can I give you this crisp $100 bill as a tip for the extra effort and you just do it anyway?" Once again, no. Here I am throwing additional money on top of the hundreds of dollars I'm trying really hard to spend, yet nobody working there has a shred of motivation to actually take it. I walked out the door in utter disbelief and reminded yet again how far this industry has fallen when it comes to customer service. For some reason, probably because I'm a Chicago guy and did genuinely want to try the pizza, I gave them my business anyway and placed two separate orders online at 6:05. Their website said it would take 30-35 minutes. That lined up pretty well with my timeline for a party starting at 7:00. A grand total of only 14 minutes later at 6:19, I got a surprise text notification that my order was ready. So the pizzas essentially died in boxes waiting to be picked up, and by the time they were served at my party, they were cold. No oven or microwave was available to reheat them. I'd say about a quarter of it was actually eaten, and the rest was thrown away. I own a brick-and-mortar business myself, and there's a reason why I've never installed an intricate phone system or an online AI agent. When was the last time a paying customer was legit satisfied after dealing with "press 1 for English" or some soulless chat bot? Never is the answer. Never. And not only do my employees have answers to customer questions, they're actually happy to answer them. And if they don't have the answer themselves, they'll find someone who does right away. Is Dicey's any good? Honestly, I still have no idea. It could be the best pizza in Nashville, but they seemingly go out of their way to ensure that as few people as possible actually enjoy eating it.
