Prince's Hot Chicken Shack South

The hot chicken was good, nothing too special but what was bad was the behavior of the Old guy in red sweatshirt behind the counter. He was rude and certainly lacking basic manners to talk to customers.

We ordered wings and tenders. Too oily but frankly i didn’t enjoy the food after that guy’s behavior.

Visited as part of a Nashville food crawl so we had samples. I really enjoyed the brisket, but the ribs were really good. They have a whole pig smoking IN the restuarant, but it's rellatively out of veiw. Enjoyed the aroma, and would certainly return if I ever came back to Nashville.

I enjoyed the atmosphere. Once you're in the store you forget where you just were! Food was nice but limited variety. The chicken comes with bread slices, which I thought was very fun. The "hotness" is just a measure of how much cayenne pepper was used.

Ordered a 50 count strip in advance & it was piping hot when we arrived home. Could not have asked for a better product. Cashier could actually care about her job & not act as if the customer is an inconvenience. She wont last long but this chicken will!

I recently visited Prince's Hot Chicken in Nashville, and while I had high expectations, my experience was just okay—not amazing. Prince's has a legendary reputation as the originator of Nashville hot chicken, so I was excited to try it. Unfortunately, they were out of sandwiches, which was disappointing since that’s what I really wanted to order. I opted for a plate of tenders instead, but the experience didn’t quite meet the hype.

The chicken was flavorful, but the spice level seemed much hotter than usual, even though I ordered a medium heat. It felt overwhelming rather than enjoyable, and it lacked the balance of flavor and heat I was hoping for. The texture of the chicken was decent—crispy on the outside and juicy inside—but nothing about it truly stood out compared to other hot chicken spots in town.

Additionally, the service was average, and the wait time felt longer than necessary, especially considering the limited menu options due to items being sold out. Overall, Prince’s is worth trying if you’re curious about the original Nashville hot chicken, but I wouldn’t rush back anytime soon. There are other places in town that deliver a better experience with more consistency and flavor balance.

My I haven’t loved the hot chicken it’s too oily I felt.

Got the chicken sandwich. The chicken had little to no flavor relying solely on the sauce they add to the sandwich. Also had parts that were so hard I was seriously scared I may break a tooth.

the “granddaughter” of the asked how everything was tasting, and I was honest and told her that the fries were good as well as the lemonade, but the chicken was TERRIBLE and she proceeded to argue with me about it and let me know that it’s nothing that they can do since I ate one out of my four tenders… Keep in mind that I never asked her for a refund or volunteered the information that the chicken was terrible, and she tried to tell me that my total was not $20 for my total was literally $20, I went for chicken and left pissed off and hungry

Stopped in too try some chicken. Ordered some takeout. Had to wait over 30 minutes for the food; Andre chicken sandwich, mild with the sweet heat sauce. Two orders of 4 tenders, one medium, one hot. Not as spicy as we thought. Will go for a higher heat next time. Ordered a beer to drink while waiting for the order. Had a band playing live music, tipped them for their performance.
