After reading previous reviews, mine should come as no surprise. On Nov. 7, 2024, after two physician appointments, I got lunch at the Subway in St Thomas West.
Subway has been in St. Thomas West at least 20 years, and has never been known to me as hospitable (despite being in a hospital). One of the employees (and perhaps owners) that was present yesterday has been present at this location many years. He typically is at the register.
Asking for additional napkins has become a dangerous pastime at many restaurants, but perhaps substantially more so at Subways. Yesterday I took the risk of asking for additional napkins and as the kids and comics say, I FAAFO. Upon asking for the additional napkins, the gentleman at the register looked at me as though I had ask for him to accompany me to a Nephrologist’s office and volunteered him for a kidney donation. I understand the value of the bottle line of napkins, and for this individual, the napkins, per his facial expressions and subsequent actions, equaled the value of an organ. The gentleman grabbed two napkins and pushed them into my hand. There was no waiting for me to take them from his hand. Initially, I was taken aback. I was accustomed to this Subway lacking in any for kindness or smiles (less you buy their suggestion of cookies). Then I realized this location has been permitted such a level of apathy towards patrons in a hospital, that they have an employee who takes the request of additional napkins as an official act of provocation. After taking a few moments after the employee’s frustration with my request, I stated, “You didn’t have to push the napkins into my hand.” I said so calmly, and with no vitriol. The look of shock and awe on all 3 employees faces told me all I needed to know. It simply is not permitted that a patron comment upon the behavior of an employee. After recognizing such, I simply put my food back down on their counter and said they were free to have my money, and food. If the request of napkins warrants such a response, I simply felt I needed to return not only the napkins, but the food. I had not touched any of the food so it was available them for whatever purpose they choose. This Subway is in a hospital. By making such a statement, I am not insinuating that community Subways have the liberty to treat patrons anyway they choose. But if you are choosing to operate in a hospital and physicians’ park, there should be a recognition that many customers could be acutely experiencing a myriad of health concerns. If this location could simply muster the skill of not taking additional napkin requests as a personal offense, and throw in the occasional, “Thank you,” they might go a long way in improving customer service. I notified Ascension St. Thomas of my experience. I was informed they looked at this Subway’s reviews and realized there was an issue with this Subway location in their hospital.

I experienced severe food poisoning after consuming a sandwich from this location on October 24, 2024. After just a few bites, I became ill and had to seek medical attention. Additionally, the staff I encountered were discourteous, which made the experience even more unpleasant. I would not recommend this establishment.

Too expensive ' I paid over eight dollars for one 6 inch sandwich No drink No chips. I'm so disappointed taste was not that impressive for that price !!! I will not be trying Subway any time soon!!! RIDICULOUS ?
