The Golden Door used to be one of my favorite spots, great music, cool people, and a solid vibe. But whatever this place has become now, it’s a shell of what it once was.
I went on Saturday, July 5th at around 2-3 a.m. and paid a $10 cover expecting at least a DJ and a drink. Instead, I walked into a completely dead venue: no alcohol, no DJ, nothing. And no one tells you that at the door.
I even made a light joke to the people near the entrance about paying to stand around in someone’s backyard — just trying to save others from wasting their time and money — and the woman working the door threatened to call the police on me. For being honest?
So I have to ask: 1. Why charge a $10 cover when there’s nothing going on? What’s our money going to? 2. Why not tell people the truth before they walk in? 3. Why respond to transparency with threats?
This place clearly isn’t about community or music anymore. Luckily, Nashville has plenty of other spots to enjoy EDM and good energy. And if the choice is between an “afters” at The Golden Door or chilling at your house, at least your house doesn’t charge you a cover to do nothing.
