Big Al is the type of friendly that makes you go back to a place regardless of how good the food is. But the food alone makes you come back. Overall it is great little restaurant that I would recommend highly to anyone that is in Nashville.

Says they are open Saturday starting at 9, got there at 11 and the place was closed. Not in a great area so probably for the best.

Wow, what a disappointment. Despite having very friendly service, Big Al's was disappointing in that I spent an hour waiting for and eating lunch and it was much more expensive than the quality of the food would indicate. Big A's is situated in a residential neighborhood with very little street parking which makes in tough to find a spot. It's a tiny dilapidated building with only four or five tables. There were also about 4 seats at the counter. It's very cramped but just be aware of that before you visit. I'm not holding that against Big Al's. Big Al's has a small breakfast menu and typical meat and 2 type menu for lunch as well as burgers and a few other sandwiches. On this day my companion and both ordered fried chicken and different side dishes. It took about 10 minutes to get waited on. The servers are also washing dishes and staying busy so they weren't screwing around, but it was very slow service. The two servers were friendly and outgoing though. The fried chicken was overcooked and it made the breading very dark. The chicken pieces were very small. The accompanying potato salad was okay but the coleslaw had a weird pepper heavy dressing and I only ate a few bites. I had peach cobbler for dessert which was nothing special. Canned peaches in a brown sugar and oat toping were amateurish and not particularly good. All they have for beverages are soda cans and iced tea I had to ask another customer to retrieve a drink for me because I couldn't get to the refrigerator case to get one myself. Again, not holding that against them. For two of us for a plate lunch of two very small overcooked fried chicken with two sides a cobbler and two drinks was $45. It was worth about 30. Don't expect the food to blow you away. I walked away not feeling like I got my money's worth and it took way too long.

Food here was delicious! Generous portions at a great price. Visited for breakfast and wish we would have been able to come back to try their lunch as well. Al and his son couldn't have been nicer. They are very welcoming and great to talk with.

This place is amazing! I'm a fussy eater and I loved everything. I ordered the 4 egg omelette, which was prepared to perfection, everything was fresh and the biscuit was delicious. Not only was the food wonderful so was Big Al and his family, they make everyone feel so welcome. This is a must place to have a meal when you're in Nashville.

This experience couldn’t have been more perfect. From beginning to end, we loved everything about it. The food was amazing. We both got the special. It takes skill to cook an egg perfectly over easy- and they were. We asked for the bacon to be crispy and it was. We wiped our plates clean. This place should be world famous.

This place does not look like your average restaurant. There are only four tables, and our party of 6 took up two of those 4. The service was personable beyond any restaurant I have ever eaten in, the food was absolutely amazing, and I left feeling like I could go back there again and again. I admit, the decor is different than any restaurant I have ever been to, with some Christmas decorations still up in April and the Easter tablecloths two weeks after Easter, but you forget about all that once you begin eating. Big Al walked us out when we were done eating and we invited him to dine with us if he makes his way to RI.

On first impression it does not look that great, second impression was not sure whether a cafe or shop. They are however delightful people that a lotof oyther cafes would do well to emulate. The food was really good and very reasonably priced. So whist not for everyone, and if you expect nice white tablecloths dont bother. We enjoyed it and it was full of other people who all seemed to be enjoying the food provided

I don’t type this review lightly I can’t understate this place is nasty. Should have left when we walked in but I’m always up for an adventure ,I should have went with my initial reaction, Watching him cook in a dirty kitchen and prepare food was concerning, but the food just wasn’t good chicken was ok but beans were canned onions and peppers were raw very sweet just not good, and greens were worse they were crunchy not cooked and didn’t taste good, and the price wasn’t great either 14 dollars for a meat and two. But after eating there if it was free I wouldn’t go back

Breakfast - don’t get the gravy biscuits. All else pretty good. Nice people. Gravy had some spice in it that was not tasty.

It may not look like much outside, but the food is GREAT, especially the mashed potatoes. My friend and I were on a John Prine pilgrimage in Nashville, and Big Al's was one of his favorite hangouts. Al and his son couldn't have been more charming. They even gave us extra helpings of chicken!

The people who work there are super nice... but bitter room temperature coffee with no refills is kind of a bummer. So is burned french toast. So is fried chicken that looks like it's going to be the best ever but the taste doesn't match up.

A local resident recently introduced us to Big Al’s Deli and Catering for a soulful southern taste of Nashville. Nestled in a cozy house in the Germantown neighborhood, we were happy we came hungry. We sampled some of the favorites overflowing on big plates. Fried catfish, meatloaf and the cheeseburger with comfort food sides of green beans, cornbread, mash potatoes and cinnamon apples. Everything was quite delicious and very filling for our stomachs and souls. Big Al’s is open with specials for breakfast and lunch except on Sunday.
