This is the best restaurant around! The service is 6 out of 5 stars, and the food doesn’t compare to anything in the area!

No complaints except cost. However, if overpaying. Do it while supporting a local business.

Over priced and over rated. It’s like a cafeteria inside. The decor is old. Prices are medium to kind of high. Especially for what you get. And the environment is kind of old looking. I will not go back.

It is almost impossible to find a decent non-fast food restaurant in Greeneville, TN. The Whistle Stop menu was promising along with some favorable reviews. Made a reservation for 6 pm on a Saturday. Not necessary since the restaurant was 1/4 full. Quite a few takeout orders while we were there. The grilled chicken dinner was over marinated and dry. My chicken Parmesan was deep fried (ok) sauce from a Ragu jar with mozzarella, eatable at least. This restaurant does not serve ant vegetables or alcohol. I would not purchase a steak based on the over marinated reviews by others plus the steak photos are not appetizing. Reminded me of a restaurant in Fairhaven , NY serving grilled slices of prime rib!

“A friend recommended “The Whistle Stop” to us and it certainly lived up to its reputation as a must-visit destination for a great steak. The meal was a delight from start to finish, with a variety of delicious options to choose from. We particularly enjoyed the soup, salad, and crackers with cheese dip (which was so good we couldn’t stop eating it!). The fried mushroom caps were also a highlight. The steak itself was cooked to perfection and simply melted in our mouths. To top it all off, we indulged in the blackberry cobbler which was out of this world. We will definitely be returning to “The Whistle Stop” next time we’re in the area.”

Liked that it was a course meal. The food was okay for the price. My husband liked the chicken better than the streak. Our table was completely clean off before we paid. The servers were nice.

After living in Greeneville for 8 years, we finally made it here. We had heard good things. We were a little surprised that the restaurant is just one open room, loud, with no privacy, not romantic at all. There was music playing on a cheap stereo, but you couldn’t hear it. They don’t serve alcohol. At one point the owner approached us with some crazy fake teeth on. This was really off-putting. The saltine crackers on the table were surprising for “fine dining” (written on their business card, and suggested by their prices). The cheese spread was pretty good. I liked the soup, a very light broccoli/cheese, but my husband said his was barely hot. The rolls were delicious and served with real butter (unlike the baked potato, which was slathered with unappetizing butter substitute). The salad was just iceberg, a few cucumbers, and overly soft tomatoes. The biggest disappointment was the beef, which was marinated to the point that I could not taste the beef flavor. I had the NY Strip; husband had the Filet. There were toothpicks in the filet, maybe to hold the bacon on, we’re not sure. We paid $30 and $33 for the steak; if these were good cuts, there’s no reason to marinate them. No vegetables were served with dinner. We did spring for 2 desserts: turtle cheesecake and blackberry cobbler. Both were delicious. We don’t plan to go back based on this experience.

Will never go back. Asked questions about the food ingredients due to food allergies and vegetarian. Some of the rudest staff we have ever encountered. Soup was watery (has chicken broth in it fyi), asked about egg or lard in the "homemade rolls". The woman yelled..yes yelled "I don't know!". Ended up with an iced tea, very meager iceberg lettuce salad and baked potato which apparently costs $18. My drink wasn't refilled I guess because I annoyed them. Didn't offer anyone at the table dessert. No stars.

I just moved to Greeneville from just north of Tampa, but have family here and vacationed here for many years, and we’ve always eaten here, with that being said! I came in tonight with my in-laws Uncle Bob & Terry, Cheryl remembered what I wanted and how I wanted my steak ! ?! Just blown away that she remembers everyone!!!! Whistle stop is a must for dinner when you are in the area, the food is always fresh & cooked perfectly, staff is extremely inviting and the restaurant is phenomenally clean !!! Make it a regular stop !!!! You will not be sorry.
