Went to Yamato Japanese steak house in Union City. As soon as we walked in a couple was leaving. They gave the waitress a $20 tip. Waitress looked really happy and relieved. As soon as that couple got out the door the manager made her give that tip +$10 to someone else. Additionally, that couple that left, it looked like they barely touched their food. The sushi prep area didn’t smell great. The atmosphere felt unpleasant.

The waitress was very friendly, sweet and efficient. Great service! The food was just OKAY. The fried rice was a semi hard chewy white rice with some kind of soy sauce on it. And that was it. The sushi we had was fairly good. The salad was just a bowl of lettuce that you squeeze yum yum sauce onto yourself. Definitely not a fan of that.

I just want to start off saying the waitress we had was awesome.The rest of the experience was horrible. I don't know this place got a 4.3 stars because this is the worst hibachi place or sushi place I have been to.Our 'fried rice' was soggy it wasn't fired. My fiance chicken texture tasted like it was sitting in a velveting batch for 5 days. Her New York steak was over cooked.Mine was cooked to medium when asked for medium rare it was only edible because it was Filet Mignon.My sushi in the roll tasted like a week old sashimiI would suggest staying away from this place, but I guess folks living in Union City, TN don't have other choices.Sucks to be the local residentOh, PS. The bathroom must had a tornado gone through it.
Tasted just like a restaurant. We have back home called Tokyo.

Very seldom do we stumble on a quality restaurant in Podunk towns in the South.But Yamatos is amazing.They could easily be a top contender for a Diamond rating. But they're geared more to satisfy the local population and passing Highway traffic.It is owned and operated by a genuine Japanese Chef...and it becomes apparent from the first bite to the last on any menu item. Incredible.Their yum-yum sauce brings back wonderful memories of dining in Kyoto, Japan. Nothing is second rate. So excellent just writing this review has my mouth watering to go eat there right now!!For those of you Scallop lovers, you may think other restaurants offering is great. Let me tell you. You have never enjoyed a perfect Scallop till you bite into a Yamato prepared Scallop.Perfect in every way !!!Give them a try. You won't be sorry !!

Salad was chopped iceberg. Their ginger salad dressing was…I don’t even know. Mandarin based? Steak was good, I was expecting the scallops to be terrible based on the salad but was decent, onion soup had good flavor. Expect exactly one 1/4 pc fried onion and one 1/4 mushroom cap. Fried rice was salty AF.
