I really wanted to like this place, but the truth is, I justdidn't. The people there were super friendly, but the whole experience just didn't do it for me. It was a slow night for dinner, but there were still a few people waiting around for service, which was a little disappointing.
Having spent a lot of time eating in Mexico when I lived in RGV, as well as a few local places there, I can say with confidence that this is not authentic Mexican food. At best, it's more Tex-Mex than anything else. I gave the street tacos, the sampler platter, and their salsa verde a shot, and was left a bit unsatisfied. The sampler was drenched in grease and wing sauce, and it was quite bland. The rice was dry, and the beans were so runny I could have used a straw to eat them. The tacos lacked flavor. For what I paid, I could have just swung by Taco Bell and saved myself the trouble. The food didn't measure up for the price.
While the staff is nice, the quality and authenticity of the food is lacking. Sadly, I cannot recommend Amigo Juan.

Excellent lunch menu prices. Mexican music to listen to and the Disney channel to watch. Our waitress stopped by several times. When she disappeared (probably on break) another waitress refilled our glasses
Kid-friendliness: Lots of patrons with children. The chairs, booth backs and tables are covered in bright colors. The chairs are carved with folk art. Our booth had animals of Africa.

That was a terrible experience, we where ignored and then rushed out. Truly wish we had turned around and left when it started going bad. I hope this isnt the normal now...this is the 2nd time we have had very rude and rushed service. If you do go here ask for Diamond she gives 5 star service!

Ordered large beans and rice to go. Got 8oz coffee cups of both. Paid $13.00 for this such a disappointment. Never again. Live to far away to come back.

I've been eating at Amigo Juan in Texarkana for years. Just moved to Atlanta two years ago and the Atlanta restaurant does not disappoint. The food and the service are both great.
