This is a classic dive bar. Bartenders I used to work with first me brought me here. After my boyfriend decided Knomad and Busty’s were not the right bar for him, Barfly’s was my first recommendation. He came here and was given a great welcoming with Jesse as the bartender. Think of Norm walking into Cheers, that’s how he felt on his first visit.
The cincher was seeing our favorite Plucker’s bartender, Jeremy, walk behind the Barfly’s bar. We did a double take, looked at one another, and asked “is that our bartender?!?!”
And it was. So now my boyfriend is their newest regular which means that I will probably end up here pretty often.

Never did I think me wearing Sherpa lined hey dudes would be the straightest person in there! Everyone was friendly and very nice. If you like the an eclectic range of friendly people and personalities this is the place to be.

Barfly's has been the same little dive bar for at least 15 years. Still decent pours and reasonable prices. Get a beer and a shot or something easy and sit with your friends. Not much else to it. Has 3 pool tables if you feel like it.

An apt review I saw online that led me to this place: Barfly's is an intimate North Austin dive that is treasured for its cheap drinks, friendly staff, and an impressively robust jukebox. In between trying your luck at foosball, pool, & relaxing on their patio, take some time to play one of their many album choices. Just watch your step on their super steep stairs on the way out!

Rum and coke is $4 in 2025. I don't know what kind of spirit they are using but it is good.
They scammed me out of money. Paid for a drink that was $4. Was never given a receipt to sign (I was never asked if I wanted to keep the tab open or closed by the way) and then I check my bank account to see a charge of $6.50. Instead of just relying on honest tips, they’d rather keep the receipt and then charge your card extra. Wonder how long they’ve been getting away with this. Always check your bank account after coming here!!!
