Whenever we discussed with friends or even strangers the restaurants in Austin receiving Michelin star rating, we had diverse opinions. We argued about service, taste preferences, and various other factors. However, when it comes to Barley Swines, we all agree that consistency in quality is paramount. Their food and service are simply consistently excellent and never disappointed. If I want a special treat, this is the place to go.
Yes, chef! Looking forward to my next visit!
Loved the beet, strawberry pecan and dumplings!!
Loved every dish. The best meal we had in Austin. Well deserve the price and the Michelin star. I would say their usage of spices and nuts leveled up every dish! Great cocktail as well.
Everything about our latest visit to Barley Swine was exquisite. The first thing that really struck me was the service. People are legit happy to help you and were happy to work with some of our timeline that didn't turn out perfect. The first greeting for our drinks had some great recommendations and were better than your average cocktail. The add-ons were the perfect complement and a nice addition to a great meal. The dessert was the tastiest part. I'd do the whole thing over right now if I could and can't wait to be back.
Excellent and inventive tasting menu, thoughtful and friendly service and good vibes.
Amazing all around. Don’t think, just book a reservation! We sat at the chef’s counter and it was an awesome time. The wait staff was also phenomenal. Didn’t miss a thing and made our experience feel intimate and customized. Best meal in Austin to date! Lots of photos. We got everything on the menu. The granita dessert was *chef’s kiss* So we ordered it twice!! (Couldn’t wait for a photo when the dumplings came, snuck a bite or two asap because they were so delicious)
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had the pleasure of attending. Had the set menu, and every dish was bursting with flavor and character. No two dishes were similar and each had their own unique flair. Great service. Recommend this experience to anyone in the Austin area. The Michelin star was well-deserved.
Our anniversary snuck up on us, but my husband was able to get a reservation at Barley Swine just a week ahead of time so happily we got to check it out! We let them know we were coming for our anniversary and they not only put Happy Anniversary on the daily menu for a cute little souvenir, they also gave us complementary glasses of champagne to celebrate!
The ambiance is great with quirky lights, a classy yet with a homey feel from all the spice jars and misc ingredients on the shelves, a bit of romance with the low lighting while still be able to see your food, and the staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable when we asked questions.
The star of course was the food which was amazing! The hiramasa was one of my favorite dishes, the flavor combos were delicious and the refried carrot was rich and creamy. My least favorite was the beet dish, but just because they aren’t my fav- and it was still good just my least favorite of them all! The fish n chip was perfectly crispy with a nice tang from the tartar sauce (though I don’t know what element was supposed to be the chip). Grilled trout was tender and I really enjoyed the lemony pea sprouts (I think), pig face carnitas were good but VERY rich with the sweet potato mole. The only add on we got was the duck liver which was a rich and flavorful bite- I’d recommend it! Akaushi ribeye was also a favorite, very tender and I loved the broccoli topping. The scallion roll didn’t taste much like scallions to me, but was very good with the drippings foam, kimchi, and rib cap all together. The celery panna cotta with granita was very interesting and sort of a combo dessert/palate cleanser; sweet but clean. The chocolate fondant/peanut brittle/marshmallow/strawberry ice cream concoction was delicious and a perfect end to the meal.
The cocktails were pretty good, though we tried the seasonal Aviation and it was too much of a martini for me it was hard to drink! I did really enjoy the Mr. Feelgood which wasn't overly sweet but was still smooth and drinkable, and the Coral Snake which was on the sweeter side but balanced with a fruity and spiced flavor.
Parking seemed a little limited but they had a valet, not sure of cost as we accidentally came around the back of the building and parked back there. Misc plus- bathrooms had full doors, and were well light in the stalls with a full mirror for checking your date night outfit!
The last little touch was a free box of cookies as an anniversary gift- and while I suspect it was partially because we were one of the lasts guests there and they were probably clearing out the baked goods, it was a super sweet surprise! All in all it was a fantastic experience, but definitely one saved for special occasions with the price point.
Great food.. like so great. Sat at chefs bar which is just another section of the bar looking over the kitchen. Got sat at the end, furthest away from the door. Pro tip: do not sit here. There is the fire from the pit where they cook the meat directly in front of you. It’s about a million degrees. Worst seat in the house. Ask to move down a chair and it helped a little. Not sure why they have those seats. Really great place, but hella expensive. $500 easily for two. But, the attention to detail is 2nd to none. Everyone looks like they enjoy working there as well.
Wish I could afford to go there more!
Michelin worthy tasting menu

Quite overrated at such its price point, atmosphere and service were impeccable, food however creatively thought out, proved mediocre in taste and presentation.
ruined my day
Please stay away from this place! Michelin Stars are a scam. Literally any fast food place serve better food than here. The service was patchy, plates often arrived without the proper cutlery, descriptions were mumbled, and servers vanished before I could grab napkins. Despite glowing TripAdvisor praise for “incredible food, impeccable service”, the hype around its one-star Michelin rating only made the gaps more glaring.
I really tried to be open about it but the flavors had no synergy at all . P.s. they didnt alow us to stream there
Honestly the best food we have ever had, everything was amazing.
