**A Hidden Gem Serving Bún Bò Huế Worth Raving About!**
Bếp Cô Thắm in Austin is an absolute treasure. I came in curious about their **Bún Bò Huế with crab balls**, and left completely blown away. The broth was rich, aromatic, and perfectly spiced—layered with lemongrass, chili, and that deep umami that only true Vietnamese cooking can deliver.
The noodles were silky and satisfying, and the beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender. But the real standout? **The crab balls.**
They were delicate, flavorful, and added a luxurious twist to the traditional dish. It’s rare to find a version of Bún Bò Huế that feels both authentic and elevated, and Bếp Cô Thắm nails it.
The staff were warm and welcoming, and the cozy atmosphere made the whole experience even better. If you're in Austin and craving Vietnamese comfort food with a gourmet touch, this is the place to go.
I’ll definitely be back—and next time, I’m bringing friends!
*** Must try there special đá me full toppings!

Just exactly what I'm looking for. Down to earth nice people and service. Beef stew with Banh Mi is great I think I almost lick the bowl. And the vermicelli could use a bit more spicy pepper but still great. The herbal grass jelly desert is just so good. Not too sweet and great for summer. We'll be back.

If you want authentic, delicious, and affordable Vietnamese this is the place!!! The salted ice coffee is to die for. The pork is so juicy and tender too! Definitely coming back on the regular!
Best Banh Mi we have had!
Food was mediocre. Service was subpar. Atmosphere was not welcoming. I wanted to support a local business and give them a chance, unfortunately it was not good. The Nem was under seasoned - completely overpriced. $34 for nem tray without noodles is ridiculous. They skimped on the veggies for that tray. As for the Bun Rieu, it was completely bland. Even after adding in the shrimp paste it was still bland. My 4 year old wouldn’t even finish an egg roll. We won’t be back.
I've visited this place several times, and each experience has been great. Plus, it's a family-owned business, which adds a genuine touch to the dining experience. I recommend giving it a try.
Food: The authentic Vietnamese cuisine they serve is truly comforting. Some menu items I like more than others. So far, my favorites are:
A1. Grilled Pork Spring Rolls
S1. Combo Banh Mi
N5a. Char Siu Egg Noodle w/ Wonton (w/ soup on the side)
N8a. Shrimp & Squid (w/ sauce & pork broth on the side)
Really lovely spot - very friendly staff. Great food! Will be coming back :)

Bep Combo Tham has that classic Vietnamese restaurant look and seems to be women-owned. They have a diverse menu, and at the end of your meal, they give you some kind of almond cookie as a dessert. Prices are a bit steeper than I expect it to be for some items.
Combo Sticky Rice / Xoi Thap Cam ($13.95): Different from what we typically have since they provided non-traditional sides. The separate components didn't work together and the overall dish didn't have the expected umami punch.
Stir-Fried Crab Glass Noodles With Special Sauce / Mien Xao Cua Sot Dac Biet ($16.95): Delicious, but it took me a long time to process this meal. Generous portion of crab, and the crab didn't smell or taste seafoody.
Combo 1 Broken Rice / Com Tam 1 ($16.50) + Extra Pork Skin / Bi Them ($3) + Extra Crab Loaf / Cha Cua Them ($3): This was good, but nothing stood out.
Crispy Fried Taro With Egg / Bot Chien ($13.99): Crispy and tasty. Comes with a generous side of pickled veggies and shredded green papaya which paired well with the bot chien.
Combo Banh Mi / Banh Mi Thap Cam ($7.95): This was so delicious that I wasn't satisfied with eating just half. It reminded me of Vietnam, which I think is thanks to the mayo and pate.
Red Thai Tea / Tra Thai Do ($5.50): I've never seen any restaurant sell Red Thai Tea before, so I had to try it. Unfortunately, this tasted and looked like a regular Thai Tea.
Almond Cookies: The first time we were here, the cookies were hard as rocks. The second time, they were soft and had a nice, subtle sweetness that cleansed my palate.
The bun rieu and nem nuong were great with authentic flavors that reminded me of my grandmas cooking. Their menu has a variety, showcasing a lot of different Vietnamese cuisine that I could only find at home!
The staff were attentive, and friendly which added to the warm atmosphere of the restaurant.
Will definitely be coming back, a taste of home far away! ?
