As a Jamaican, Canje Austin truly felt like home. I went last night and was blown away by how authentic and thoughtfully executed everything was. The Pink Pineapple cocktail was perfectly balanced and refreshing. The ceviche was bright and fresh, the West Indian curry was rich and deeply flavorful, and the roti was soft, warm, and exactly how it should be. Every bite brought back memories of home cooking with a refined, modern touch. Incredible food, great energy, and a spot I'll definitely be returning to.
We are so glad we came here for my birthday dinner. The service was great and servers so friendly. I ordered the
Always love this restaurant. My favorite restaurant in Austin. Food is on point, servers are always well versed and atmosphere is electric. The drinks are on a whole different level of taste! You can't go wrong at Canje.
The food was incredible and did not take long at all to get to us. Our server was amazing, she was courteous and energetic. She helped us celebrate us buying a house in Austin suburbs. It was great experience and overall outstanding evening
Food and cocktails were fantastic. Service was great. The only thing I wish was changed is the lighting. It's very dark and I would have liked to be able to see my food in greater detail. Will definitely return.
Amazing experience. Very unique for Austin. It's family style so is good for a group. Think the ceviche might be the best in Austin and the curry was insane. Make sure you're ready for a little spice!
As a native Austinite, surprisingly, this was overall a miss for me. Good things ✅ 1) Service is great, they're friendly, attentive and helpful. 2) Ambiance- The restaurant is super cute! The really nailed the Caribbean/West Indies vibe. 3) Philanthropy- special menus- they were running a special menu for Black History Month when we went that benefits some local universities and residents here, which I really appreciate. Not so good things ❌ 1) It's “family style” dining however the portions are TINY. At least what we ordered was. Also, for family style dining they seat you at tables that are super tiny and you can't fit everything on your table without feeling a bit awkward or at risk of spilling something. 2) They want you to make all your food selections for your entire meal at the beginning and then they course it out. Thats fine if that's something you're okay with- I personally don't like it. I prefer to take my time with my selections. 3) There is very little transparency with their menu. I ended up ordering the seared fish, which turned out to be Red Fish, which I am allergic to. (I agree partially my fault for not asking but it's rare I come across Red Fish) Overall, I'd say Canje is worth a try if you really like Caribbean food, or you're with a large group, and like to share dishes. I'd skip this place for a date night. It's also quite loud, or was when we went. It's owned by the Emmer & Rye group who have a number of other amazing restaurants, my favorite of which is Ezov, if you like Mediterranean cuisine.
Food was excellent, flavorful, good portion sizes. Probably best for groups as ambiance was extremely loud and long wait times between courses and beverage orders.
We had a fantastic experience. The food was fabulous. Our favorites were the pink pineapple, pepper fish and roti. Plus, the tres leches and mango sorbet were great. Can't wait to visit again soon.
Very very good. Definitely one of our favorite Austin restaurants. Creative flavors. But very loud.

This was my first time to Canje. I sat at the bar - Andy and Morgan were very attentative and offered great recommendations. The jerk chicken was FIRE. I also got the roti and the coconut rice and the Perfect bite was everything together dipped in the pickapeppa sauce. I did try the black cake and it was quite dry even with the panache and the whipped cream. Quick note on the noise level - it is loud, at least on Saturday night, so if you want to be able to talk more I would recommend requesting seating on the patio or in the back room or going on a week night (maybe).
I don't know when I've enjoyed a meal more! Started off with a cocktail both were excellent (I can't remember the exact names) one was smoky margarita type drink, mine was gin based with the right balance of sweet and bitter. Ceviche was TO DIE FOR!!!! We next had the coconut buns, they were good with the thyme butter but felt sort of out of place in our menu line up. Had the jerk chicken, grilled cabbage, sweet potato and fried plantains. The spice level was definitely dry high but in a hurts so good way. It walked right up to the line of too much. The fried plantains kept the spice in check. Finished off with the black cake. I didn't love it but that's just me! The topping orange cream was excellent.
Assured, inspired, flavorful and interesting. From appetizers & vegetables thru mains to desserts and after dinner drinks- the food was beautifully prepared, with balanced yet intriguing flavors. We rarely order dessert, and never after dinner drinks, but the selection was so intriguing we wanted to see what was offered. Highly recommended.
ALEX!!! You are amazing! This was my first time here and I was very satisfied. I honestly came in, looked at the menu, and thought I didn’t like anything but omg was I surprised. Don’t let the menu names get you!! The food is amazing and I even ordered seconds. I loved every bite and am so glad I tried something new. Definitely will recommend this place to anyone. Ahh!! It was so good! The food was so good I can’t add pictures because the plates are empty.
