Went to Hopdoddy Burger Bar and it’s a great pick when you want a “real” burger and a fun atmosphere without getting too fancy. The place stays busy, but the line moves and the staff keep things organized. The burger had a good char, juicy middle, and the bun actually held up (no falling apart halfway through). Fries were hot and seasoned right, and the sauces make it even better. It’s not the cheapest burger in town, but the quality feels worth it, especially for a casual night out.

****Don’t Go Here****

I’m genuinely disappointed to be writing this review because I used to love the Fifth Street location and was a frequent regular. Unfortunately, my most recent experience made it clear that customer safety and respectful conduct are not being prioritized there.

During my visit, a patron with a service dog was allowed to block a high-traffic area, creating a clear hazard. When I politely asked for space, the individual responded by using profanity toward me. Regardless of whether a dog is a service animal or has any form of permit, aggressive behavior toward other patrons should not be tolerated. What was most upsetting is that no bartender or staff member intervened or stood up for me.

I have spent thousands of dollars at Hopdoddy over the years, so this experience was especially disheartening. I initially spoke with a manager over the phone who was empathetic and apologetic, which I appreciated. However, when I later went into the restaurant to speak with the manager in person (Alan), the tone shifted completely. There was no empathy or apology. Instead, he attempted to defend the individual, stating that he had contacted the person with the service dog to ask about a permit, and then proceeded to dismiss the broader issue of customer safety and conduct.

If you’re looking for a relaxed and respectful happy hour experience, I would strongly recommend choosing a different location. The Congress location has consistently provided far better service. I would advise avoiding the Fifth Street location if this type of environment is not something you want to encounter.

We haven't been to Hopdoddy's in a long time. The original one on South Congress used to have the best burgers ever. The burgers at the Hopdoddy on E. 5th St. are smaller than before and the bottom bun was soggy on every burger our group ordered. Plus, I asked if the Llano Poblano burger was still available since it's not on the menu now and I was told that yes they still make them. So I ordered it and I don't think it even had poblano pepper in it at all. It was just a regular hamburger with a soggy bottom. I didn't bother to send it back to complain because we won't eat there again. It's too bad that an old time favorite burger joint has turned to crap.

Last minute Christmas shoppers: Santa Hot Buns are a great present- if you ask me. You get $10 for every $40 gift card! Great 78702 neighbors with a fantastic crew. I got the seasonal The Duke burger, a beautiful beef Wellington-type delicatessen! Yes, it had the classic duxelle, the puff pastry, medium-rare Wagyu beef, and a wine demi-glace coating. I hope it stays for a while on the menu. It goes perfect with the cocktails, and friendly staff in all positions.
