My son lives in Austin. I visited last weekend. He introduced me to this restaurant years ago and we've been there a few times. However, it's been awhile since a while since I last visited. Fortunately, without speaking about a place to have a meal prior to my return to San Antonio I followed my son to this restaurant, Counter Cafe. A pleasant and welcomed surprise. The welcoming personnel are that and with a smile. The staff are pleasant and attentive. Every meal I've ordered has been hot and delicious. This visit. I ordered huevos rancheros. The huevos rancheros were a bit to different than what I have experienced at a number of different restaurants and I am used to. In fact, I thought the sauce on top of my overeasy eggs were beans. So, I asked the pleasant individual who welcomed us if I could get some salsito. He pointed out that what I thought were beans was salsito. I apologized and chuckled to myself. On top of the salsito were 2 slices of avocado. A pleasant touch and the salsito was quite tasty and pleasant. Now, if there was more of this salsito I would have rated it with a fifth star. Next, time I shall ask for a little more of the salsito.

If you have any kind of food allergy, I would strongly recommend avoiding this place. The staff isn’t knowledgeable about their menu or allergy concerns, and as someone with celiac disease, I found the gluten-free options to be extremely limited. The food itself was mediocre at best and definitely not worth the price. To make matters worse, the restaurant was noticeably dirty, the restroom door handle even had mold growing on it, which is completely unacceptable. Overall, between the lack of allergy awareness, poor food quality, and unsanitary conditions, I would never come here again.

I absolutely love this place. I am a frequent guest. I feel like I’m at home. The cooks are fabulous efficient they always have the food on point. I’ve never had a time that it was not delicious. The service providers waitresses are friendly. They always ask me if I need coffee because I am quite particular about how my coffee is made. They have the best coffee in town. If you guys know me I always write a review and this is one place I want you all to check out. They’re open from 6 to 3. Saturdays are my best days but remember come early because there will be a line but they will try to get you in as soon as possible. It seems to me the places that have lies are always the place to eat for me. I wanna thank you counter café, and your staff for your hard work your discipline to make fabulous food for all us as consumers and keeping us happy. We will not go wrong if you come here and if you just so happen to find this post and it make sure decisionmy name is Sara. I’m happy to give you a glass place in town my little secret counter café.

Vibe is nice and so was our server, but the food got me and my partner sick almost immediately. Everything tasted old, stale. Food LOOKS very appetizing but the taste of it overall was very very bland.
ps/edit: Food made us very sick, threw up immediately when I got home. Pls cook the chicken y’all that’s important to remember.
We’re obsessed with this place and regularly get breakfast there. However, their app doesn’t work and won’t let orders process. We usually get around this by going in person to order takeout, but when we went today, they told us to use the app, which still doesn’t work. Really frustrated with the whole experience.

Nice counter cafe place. Narrow. Not too much seating inside, additional seating outside (too hot for me right now)

Food: I ordered the Joe's Special: scrambled eggs topped with home-made sausage, on top of spinach salad and home potatoes. Everything was fresh and tasty. No complaints.
