Great bbq and beer selection, excellent side options and one of the few bbq joints that serves fried okra! Nice large outdoor venue with lots of shade
Metcalf BBQ is a great place to take the whole family and enjoy a great meal.First, there's plenty of parking space, you just have to walk a bit. If you have a wheelchair it can get a bit difficult, because it is not a paved parking lot (this is because of city renovations, it might change in the future).Second, their BBQ is not the best, but it's tasty; definitely better than most. They have delicious brisket and pork ribs as well as pulled pork and various side dishes (Cole slaw, Mac n' Cheese, potato salad, among others). All served in trays and cardboard plates, very convenient to transport or take home. They have refill soda fountain (including lemonade) and they also serve beer and other alcoholic drinks.Third, the kids play ground and tables are outside this makes it seem like a picnic, and I loved that. The only thing I observed is that they don't clean the tables, but rather expect people to maintain the tables clean. It's a good idea, but it's nice to have it cleaned with something else other than paper towels. This is not a must try, but if you have kids and love brisket and ribs, this is an excellent choice.
We generally eat the sides when we come here, and they are top notch. Love their potato salad, beans and coleslaw. Honestly, the coleslaw is as good as mine, and that's a high mark, lol! Today we had the beans, which we so appreciate are made with vegetables and not mean, and they were exquisite. While I cannot comment on the meat, which I know is a key menu item for many, I can fully endorse the sides!
Food is decent. Meat portions are not as big as I'd like but considering the price they're reasonable. Okra is tasty if a bit salty. The real draw and why I'm giving it 5 stars are the playgrounds. Three playgrounds to be exact and so many trees that keep everything shaded.
Incredibly tender and flavorful brisket. Sauce (on the side) has a bit of a kick. Brisket really stands alone by itself without sauce. Mac and cheese wasn't anything exceptional. Fried okra was standard. However, very tender and delicious brisket. Would go back for the brisket.
Very overpriced, especially for the quality and quantity that you get. The brisket was very fatty, which makes the price sting even more. The only saving grace is that the outside seating is spacious, kid friendly and has a lot of fans.
2 beers, 2 kid drinks, 2 kid meals, 2 regular salads with turkey. $80.This is literally 2x the prices from last time and wow, not worth it. Come and drink in a nice space - don’t eat for gods sake. The food is middling and the prices are wack.Great drink selection, nice bartenders. Playgrounds and beautiful space. We’ve been coming for ten years - but this was our first time back since COVID.Apps are reasonably priced, just don’t get the dinners.
All our food was great! Brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and jalapeño cheddar sausage; potato salad, Mac n cheese and fried okra.Kids lived the playground! Great place to meet family for a day of fun!
From the outside it may seem like a simple hole in the wall, but once you get inside it opens up to a beautiful backyard outdoor seating arrangement. This is a fantastic place to hang out and listen to music, they have shaded canopies as well as large fans to keep you cool in the heat. The barbecue itself is fantastic and some of the best I've had in Texas, that long 14 hour smoke time gives you super soft and lean brisket with less fat and more flavour than most other places. I absolutely recommend visiting for their brisket and atmosphere. The two ladies that were there while I visited were extremely nice and welcoming as well, I will be heading back soon.
We celebrated ours sons 5th birthday at Metcalf and everyone enjoyed the place. It’s really clean and the staff is wonderful and very accommodating. They have 2 playscapes and a ton of tables. Excellent place to host a event.

This is a casual place with picnic-style tables and a very large outdoor seating area with a big playground for kids. Lots of drinks on tap, great food, and a stage for live music. The only downside is that it’s a little pricey, but worth it for a night out. The employees I interacted with were helpful and pleasant! (They even said all meat was gluten-free, which I was excited about since I have a gluten intolerance!)
good music loved the food. waiting for warmer weather
We love Metcalf. The food is always good and their outdoor space is great with kids. We had them cater an event this past weekend, and they were flexible and made sure things ran perfectly.
This place makes delicious food as good or better than salt lick or its competitors. Lots of people but very little wait time. Plus the helpings were more than fair for the price. I strongly recommend treating the fam to this amazing austin owned restaurant.
Some of the best pork ribs I've ever had, and really, really good brisket and pulled pork. The cheesy spinach side is de-lish and a welcome change from the normal, monotonous BBQ sides everywhere. Super chill outdoor seating too. Chef's kiss to Metcalf! ?
