This was my first visit to El Alma and I was a little disappointed. Service is really the big reason for 3 stars!
I was meeting a friend for dinner and she got there before me but water wasn’t even brought to the table until I got there (and I was at least 10 minutes late). Then the waitress just wasn’t attentive. Again I was more so disappointed because my friend actually liked this location.
Also there were specials- we only found out the special when we went to the bathroom ??♀️
Food:
I got a salad and added beef- not the prettiest thing BUT it was yummy. I definitely do not regret that pic! My friend got a soup and she was also satisfied!
We got the blanca sangria and again a great choice.

We appreciated the sound-absorbant tiles hung under the ceiling: the dining room was quiet enough for conversation.
Service was fabulous: Darby struck a perfect balance of attentive without intrusive.
The food was really good: we all ordered breakfast tacos and greatly enjoyed what we got.

So this spot just opened up in south Austin. My friend invited me to dinner here and I have never been here nor have I been at the other location either and I read some of the reviews online and they were all very good. Food is a little pricey but totally worth it. The portion size isn't like crazy but it's definitely decent. The atmosphere here is really good Great to take some friends. Restrooms were very clean overall I'll definitely be back because the service was extremely on point.

Cold food, cold restaurant and server told me what I owed without showing me an itemized receipt. I had to request it. Shady procedures. Plus the restaurant grounds were filthy.

Extremely average food, whose “unique twists” on Tex-mex cuisine consisted of mushrooms being added to a few cheese dishes. Ridiculous prices for the quality/quantity of food - $20+ dollars for two enchiladas and some white rice is highway robbery. We got precisely 13 tortilla chips with our queso, which is pretty strange. When you pay your bill, you’ll be presented with a default tip of 25%, so I hope you’re comfortable shelling out an additional fourth of your bill for mediocre service. Forgettable.

The salsas and appetizers set the stage with incredible flavors and raised our expectations. And then those expectations came crashing down with pretty listless entrees. We ordered enchiladas and taco trio. Dessert (Tres Leches) was absolutely awesome.
We had ordered vegetarian appetizer and they gave us the non - veg one. But our waitress immediately figured it out and sent it back. She was excellent.
For some reason, there were crickets inside the restaurant all the time we were having dinner. I am not sure if that is a daily occurrence but that wasn't good at all .

The only thing cooking up here is Jose the bartenders attitude. Ignores our group the whole time and only decides to acknowledge us when im telling a story to my friends and he comments on it when no one had even spoken to him the entire hour we were there. If you want someone with a bad attitude add non attentive, ask for him. The other bartender was nice and attentive but got off early as he should yet Jose proved to be rude, unprofessional, and inattentive. His behavior is truly shocking as I know Ash and Shannon rough never accept this. But hey Jose, keep seeing how far that attitude gets you.

The mushroom quesadillas were good, but we loved the tres leches: one of the best I’ve had in town.
