We had such good service here and the food was good at a reasonable price! I would recommend walking here if you paid parking at the Bullock Texas History Museum. This was a great recommendation from an employee at the museum and we were so glad we took his advice. It is a family friendly restaurant and we had no complaints.
We were staying in the Hilton next door and decided to make an easy night and come right across the street. The service was fantastic, that's the only reason for the 2 stars, the food was horrible, rice was crunchy, black beans were crunchy, Refried beans tasted like I took a spoonful of cumin straight out the container, spinach mushroom enchiladas were just raw spinach and raw mushrooms in a soggy Tortilla, with the worst store bought Ranchero sauce ever made, the Guacamole was watery and had no flavor. At least the margaritas were strong. The manager made it right but man were we disappointed
Always a favorite. GOOOOD FOOD.Great Staff. All of them! Anyone will check on you, any time you look inquisitive.Fyi, I am 50+ & pudgy. Not a hottie.?They are just really nice people.?
We chose El Mercado for our son's wedding rehearsal dinner. What a great choice, especially in the time of covid! The restaurant was immaculate, the food was truly some of the Best Authentic Mexican food I've eaten in Austin. Cory, our server was the reason we had such a good time. Great service, great food, and atmosphere combine to makes a memorable evening! And...the price was just right. Thanks for helping make this 'special life event' a happy "new" family beginning!Good health, and blessings for a prosperous New Year.
Fun place for margaritas and brisket nachos!
I'm sorry to say that this was the worst Tex-Mex food I've eaten in my life. My "sizzling fajitas" were warm at best. My neighbor at the bar also had the fajitas and his were colder than mine. Pretty tasteless. The onions were close to raw. I even had to ask for chips and salsa while I was waiting for my fajitas. There's not a lot of options in this area but I have to say that anything would have been netter.
Great food and staff are amazing
Tasty food and excellent service! We ordered the brisket enchiladas, brisket tacos, and mushroom/spinach enchiladas. It was all very delicious! And our server was very kind and helpful!
I am from Houston, but every time I'm in Austin I make it a point to stop here. The food is delicious, and I mean that. I have never given a hoot about atmosphere with regard to any restaurant. I only care about service and taste. And they do both of these well. Very well indeed.
Wonderful food, staff, and atmosphere. Good lunch specials too!

Great service, very friendly. The GM made her rounds and checked up on everybody to make sure the meal and service was excellent.
Great lunch menu!Food is great too!
In Austin for the weekend and stayed at the Hampton Inn on Lavaca. Tried El Mercado's right across the street. Nice bar and dining area. Friendly bar service throughout the evening. We tried the chicken fajita's and received an enormous amount of food for 2 people. Great taste on a corn tortilla and we could only eat about half of the amount of food provided. Very good meal and I will come back for more.
Super friendly. Reasonable prices. Fast, good service. Carnitas tacos are excellent.
I had the CJ Plate (one brisket taco, one cheese enchilada, queso, rice, and beans. It was delicious and the margaritas are great. I ordered the homemade bread pudding to go and it’s the best bread pudding I’ve ever had. On top of all the good food, the staff were really friendly and attentive.
