El Naranjo - South Lamar

We were drawn back by the menu descriptions in the February newletter and so started with the La Catrina Negra drink. The marigold flower powder was a very fun addition. The Queso appetizer was wrapped in hoja santa leaves that our server told us were grown in Chef Iliana's own garden. The Estofado Istmeno was also delicious. The crowning touch was the Tamal de Chocolate with orange blossom ice cream. We like the ice cream so much we ordered an extra bowl. Can't wait to see the next newsletter to see what we'll be ordering during our next visit.

Really enjoy this place for its authentic food and gluten free friendly menu. Our server was great and helped guide us through the menu. Drinks were yummy and the mole is the best I've had in Austin.

It's always a perfect experience. This place never fails. The food is top-notch.

The moles were excellent and everything from guacamole to shrimp was spicy! Margaritas were great. Wine list limited to South America and Europe. Kinda disappointing.

Delicious food, great cocktails, and the manager, Justin was so accommodating! He saved our night! Would recommend this place to anyone :)

The food is great. A bit on the expense side but the quality is there. On the service side, there is no ambiance music. We showed up at 6 with no reservation and the hostess seemed bothered that we didn’t have one. We can always go and spend money somewhere else if that was a problem. At the end we requested a birthday dessert for our friend. No candle and no birthday wishes for the server or the staff.

I read about this restaurant in Food & Wine magazine. They painted a glowing picture and the actual restaurant did meet those standards. However, I asked for a quiet table and such does not exist in this restaurant. Very noisy to say the least. But food and service were amazing. The house margaritas are great! I would go again, but hopefully when it's not so busy and loud.

Our hostess was very rude. Our server was fabulous. The food was overpriced but tasted pretty good. The cocktails were great. I won't go back. Please ask your hostess to not tell guests when they need to leave especially when you made a reservation, spent loads of money and the restaurant isn't at capacity. Again our server was incredible as was the rest of the staff. The restrooms were awful and need to be remodeled if you are going to charge that much.

Super delicious duck mole and ceviche! Quality was super, will definitely be coming back to try other dishes.

It is not what I expected from what they offer as Oaxacan-style food, it is a deception for the Mexican that this is Oaxacan food.!

Fabulous meal at El Naranjo. Our server was great, you could tell she was passionate about the food and enjoyed working there. Nice strong cocktails. Loved the Oaxacan/interior Mexican food. Tried the mole, octopus, queso, and elote cake. Great alternative to texmex. Lovely place and will definitely go back to explore the rest of the menu.

I took my partner here to celebrate his birthday. We were underwhelmed by the atmosphere. Definitely not in line with the quality of food and service. The food and service was amazing! We opted to sit at the bar because it felt more intimate than sitting at the table. The management should reconsider decor and staff's attire.
