Get a reservation, but I cannot recommend Eldorado highly enough. The Papas Rellenas are excellent, and the Salsa X might be my favorite salsa in Austin. Not a bad (or even mediocre) dish on the menu. Fantastic staff.

Dined on a Tuesday night celebrating my son's birthday. It's his favorite Mexican food restaurant. We walked right in and were seated, unlike the weekends when it's always packed. Queso, margs, salsas and chips, and food always delicious. I had the Dart Bowl enchiladas because I grew up in Austin in the 60s and 70s and was feeling nostalgic! Don't really remember the bowling alley enchiladas with an egg, but I'm old so who knows. Bowling alley food was always good back in the day, and Eldorado's delivered on taste! We all enjoyed our meals, and dining experience. Always ready to go back!

We have been fans of El Dorado for as long as they've been in business and have dined there many times over the years. With the recent popularity over the last couple years it's made it difficult to want to go back. The wait times on Friday and Saturday night are consistently over an hour. Last night we waited 1hr 45mins most of the time in the freezing cold outside with little heating available. The main issue here is this business has outgrown its space. There isn't enough room inside for waiting. There aren't enough tables to seat the volume that this restaurant is receiving. The staff also isn't turning over tables fast enough.
While we waited, there were consistently open tables sitting for up to 30 mins uncleaned and unsat. This is just poor management of operations and needs to improve in order for me to go back.
To be transparent, we love the food, love the cool vibe, love the wait staff and most everything else. The wait times and outside experience make it very hard to go back though. There are so many great Mexican food options in Austin and the wait times at El Dorado are just too much to justify.
I know I can make reservations to avoid the problem, but this requires making one weeks in advance which just isn't practical for casual dining.
The owners need to expand the space into the adjacent building and until then make improvements to the operational efficiency.
Until this happens I don’t see us going back anytime soon.

Been coming here for a few years and the food is consistently amazing!! I LOVE the Rene’s Awesome Enchiladas. The service is always incredible as well, quick and friendly. We had Lindsey tonight and she is a gem!! Such a sweetheart, can’t wait to come back and see her and have some more great Tex Mex!

We’ve only been here a few times so far, but we’ve really enjoyed it each time! The food comes out fast, the service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is welcoming. We’re definitely looking forward to coming back again and trying more of the menu. Highly recommend!

This place is the place to bring the vegan out of towner! Great vegan and vegetarian selection and all of it tastes amazing!!! The only problem with this place is it is small and there is almost always a wait. The food is worth the wait.

Very good food and friendly servers, but very busy and sometimes an almost 2 hour wait.

El Dorado has some good street tacos (the pork chicken mixed one). The flavors are great and you can't go wrong with whatever option you pick. It's being in a random strip mall. They have some good aguafrescas. Easy spot to keep coming back to.

If you have an actual appreciation for Mexican food, avoid this place at all cost!

Went in for an early dinner and was told it was going to be a 2.5 hour wait even though there was at least 6 tables clean and open, with no one waiting outside

This is one of those places where everything is clearly well thought out and executed really well. As someone who grew up in Austin, I view Eldorado as a step up from the neighborhood Tex Mex spots that I grew up going to. We got the salsa sampler, guac, queso, enchiladas suizas, a variety of tacos (including the Saturday specials, carne guisada and suadero), and our favorites were the Alambre Street Tacos. Super delicious and recommend making a reservation to avoid a long wait!
