Whole experience was meh. Best parts was the service and the French fries. Worst alligator bites I have ever had. It was all gristle and had no seasoning. I guess all the salt was used up in the muffaletta, as it was saltier than pirate sweat. The live music was good but made conversation hard.

Look. I was born in Louisiana. I go back home multiple times a year. I have a yearly ritual of going to the Saints home opener, no matter how bad we are. Any time someone in Austin recommends the food of my people to me, I go in with the intent to hate it. I'm so hesitant to trust a new spot that I have to approve of one other dish on the menu before I'll even try the gumbo.
But y'all. This is it. These folks are the real deal. This is THE gumbo in Austin. Whoever they got in their kitchen knows how to handle a roux like no one else I've found in this city. I'm only mad it took me so long to be introduced to this place.

Frog legs over-breaded and somehow, wet but meat dry and tasteless. Seafood Gumbo bitter leaving horrible aftertaste. Music too loud to continue conversation at table and staff interrupting to ask for a tip for the band.

As a Southern Louisiana boy, this place is a cozy reminder of home. The food, vibe, and service are all authentic. Regular live Cajun music and some of the best Cajun food I've had outside of Louisiana. Highly recommend to anyone, especially fellow Louisiana transplants!
Menu items I've tried that pass the test: Gumbo, Boudin, Alligator Sauce Piquant, Po-Boys (they have French bread), Red beans, and beer (a nice Abita selection)

Just finished eating here and it was perfect! Such a fun, relaxed atmosphere and absolutely outstanding food! I highly recommend the shrimp etouffe - the best I’ve had in a really long time. The service was also just right - friendly and efficient. You should definitely try this wonderful cafe!

Evangeline is awesome. It's been there 22 years, they have great food and music acts. I love the jambalaya in particular, and they have some beers from Louisiana too. My uncle is full-blooded Cajun and he says it's the only place he'll eat Cajun food that he didn't cook himself, so there you go.

Came here for the first time for our friend's bday who is Cajun. Drove down from Pflugerville because of the reviews this place had and it did not disappoint!
We had a great experience, and our serve Vega was really nice. All the food was delicious, the atmosphere was fun, and probably one of the yummiest desserts ever.

Always a great meal at Evangeline. Love the gumbo and étouffée, but I nearly always end up with the catfish macque choux. Time for another visit soon.

This Southside gem is and has always been amazing. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I highly recommend the Shrimp or Oyster Po'Boys, Crawfish Pistolettes and Bread Pudding for dessert! Thank you for the samplers today too, that was sweet!
