Finally made it here and sad that it took me so long bec it was some great home cookin’. Everything was just right, not over seasoned or overly fancy… just some great food. The chicken fried chicken, catfish platter and sides (green beans, mac n cheese, jambalaya and fried okra) were delicious. We arrived 30 mins before closing so we just sat inside. Place was clean and had a nice, cozy ambiance. Glad this place is still around and was saved some years ago from shutting down. Will return to try some actual bbq in the future.

I haven't been so disappointed in the meal in this town. I'm a big fanatic for Chicken Fried Steak, so went ahead and picked that for my meal. Though the service was great, the staff nice, and the ambience very good, the meal was mediocre at best. The portions are absolutely ridiculous for the price. Puny piece of meat, bland, tasteless gravy(with barely enough to cover the patty), a tiny, quarter cup saucer of over cooked fries, no Texas Toast(!), barely passable Cole slaw, and for $16.00? Gimme a break! What I got was only enough for a snack, skimpy portions, Aaaaarrrghh. What happened to this place?( I'm NEVER coming back

We ran in close to closing. Everyone was so accommodating. They're was live music in the back. The food was exceptional. The brisket was moist and perfectly cooked, the pork ribs tender, and the blueberry pie and peach cobbler- delicious!! Great gem of a place!

Green mesquite Barton springs is not only a great barbecue spot, but they also have live music regularly.
When you walk in here it's not incredibly fancy, it feels like old Austin, in a good way. You'll have good food. It won't break the bank and you might get to see some good music.
Specials: They have Monday through Friday lunch and dinner specials for $12 to $15, see attached photos or just go in and check out the chalkboard. They also have some alcohol specials but I didn't pay attention to that. Check the signs inside.
Music: they have an outdoor back patio with live music, and I don't know that they've ever charged a cover for it. Just a nice addition to your meal.
Story side note circa 2016: My father came to visit me here from another barbecue state (which will remain unnamed, haha) where he smokes his own barbecue. He had met up with an old navy buddy that lived here who took him around to do several things but only took him to a couple not so great barbecue spots. (Like Rudy's or whatever.) Dad was disappointed in the barbecue thus far in TX, he Even said he wasn't interested in having any more barbecue in Texas. I kind of begrudgingly made him go to Green mesquite with me. We had a delightful meal, there was a bluegrass band playing, and after eating, he said his faith in Texas barbecue was renewed. So thank you Green Mesquite for that.

Great meat at a fair price! I absolutely love smoked wings so I was very excited to try this place & the wings did not disappoint. Do keep in mind, the only sauces they have are their homemade buffalo sauce & bbq. Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of buffalo sauce in general so I went bbq & it complimented the wings nicely. My boyfriend got their sausage & pork ribs, both delicious & not dry. All the sides were great. I was tempted to try the pie but I was so full by the end of our meal.
My only “downside” is they only have beer & a seltzer for alcohol selection. Not worth removing a star as the overall experience was great but if you’re not a beer drinker such as myself, and would like a drink with your meal, just keep that in mind.

Rick Garcia — you and you staff realy kick out a cool vibe. The food? Dinomite! Every bite hit the spot — hearty, flavorful, and clearly made with love. I have to give props for the man playing the jams as we left. They were straight out of my favorite roller rink growing up.

Not sure if it was the actual manager but a lady came out the facility to smoke and rudely told me I cant park there not knowing that I was walking down the street to meet my friend in which we planned on eating there... Next time I suggest you ask if the customer plans on eating there instead of telling them that you're the manager and they can't park there. Highly don't recommend and will not come back.

Locals know, this is one of the last spots you can experience the real, old Austin. Friendly folks (the place was bought by the staff) with good food and cold beer. Highly recommend the bbq chicken, the chicken fried steak, the sliced beef sandwich and the wings. Sit on the back patio in the evening and enjoy some live music under the green lights.
