My favorite restaurant in Austin. I eat here at least once a week. Love to go on Tuesday so I can get the enchilada special and my partner can get the steak ranchero special. The chips and salsa are so good. Salsa is delicious and spicy. But what really keeps us coming back is the staff. You feel so taken care of by every single person there. Feels so homey, cozy and familial.

This is a Mexican food establishment. I came for lunch on an extremely busy Monday. They only have an all indoor seating that happens to be quite cluttered and crammed. I can see how some review comments stated that the servers spoke somewhat abruptly. Not necessarily bothersome to me, it’s evident that they’re a very well established restaurant that technically do not need this new customer. As for the food, large portions looked appealing. My enchiladas, I did not like that they were stuffed with slices of grilled chicken. The beef dish? The meat was somewhat nervy. The charro beans and refried beans and rice did have a great flavor. Hence their popularity. So as for the lunch dishes, it’ll be a hit or miss.

Worth the 25 minute wait to be seated. Family friendly, authentic home cooked Mexican cuisine.

Habanero Mexican Café is an absolute gem! The restaurant has an authentic taste and vibe that makes you feel right at home. I tried the Chori-migas, and it was delicious—full of flavor and cooked perfectly. I also sampled the red enchiladas as a side dish, and they did not disappoint.

The prices are very budget-friendly, especially for the quality of food you get. This spot is definitely going on my list of must-visit places. I’ll absolutely be coming back again whenever I’m in Austin!

Any time I fly back into Austin from a long trip the Habanero Cafe is my first stop on the way home.

The food is 100% absolutely worth the wait. Don’t be a jerk to the kind staff!

Both my husband and I loved this place. Thank you to the waitress, she was wonderful. It was fairly busy so I was suggesting early lunch or maybe later.

Great place

Wait was relatively short about 5/7 min for joining on week day at noon

Staff very pleasant and friendly.

Food was delicious!!! Home made traditional food I would completely recommend. The salsa with the chips is a bit spicy on the tongue which feels good. Daily lunch menu special has great option and prices are very decent!!

I’ve never felt so rushed at a restaurant. We had already finished eating and were just sitting for a moment when a staff member came over and told us we needed to leave because other people were waiting. The way they said it was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. There was no courtesy, no “thank you for dining with us,” just an abrupt push out the door.

A restaurant should never make guests feel unwelcome or like they’re an inconvenience. We paid for our meal, we were respectful, and we were treated with zero courtesy in return. If this is how they handle their customers, I won’t be coming back — and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who expects basic respect.
