Whoever gave reviews for this place that gave it more than 4 stars have to be paid reviewers. This is without a doubt the worst Japanese restaurant I’ve ever been to. I grew up traveling across Asia. I don’t just eat at any Asian restaurant. I ordered the Tempura dinner (mixed vegetables and shrimp) and this appetizer called the honey wasabi shrimp. I also ordered a side of fried rice. The tempura was bland. It lacked that good tempura flavor. Then when I bit into the wasabi shrimp it tasted rubbery. It had tempura breading so I expected it to be crunchy even with the sauce on it. It tasted like it was microwaved. Rubbery, chewy, and not spicy at all. It has “wasabi” in the name! Lastly, we arrived there at 8:15. They close at 9. At 8:30, right after we ordered the waiter told us that the kitchen was closing. So we thought ok, no more orders. We didn’t expect that to mean that sides of rice and sauces were no longer available as well. The tempura sauce was so little. Also, my friend ordered teriyaki chicken. What they gave him was bland pan grilled chicken and bottled teriyaki sauce spread on top. Like a 1st grader could have put it together. We also ordered sushi rolls. We left half of it still on the plate because they tasted worse than gas station sushi. But it’s just as well because it all tasted terrible. Do yourselves a favor and stay clear of this awful place.

Ordered the long horn roll, which was decent. The honey Wasabi shrimp was horrible. It was overcooked, slimey, and bad texture. Tempura was not fresh; almost felt like they tossed hours hold fried tempura into a Wasabi sauce. The food was sent back as is, and they weren't able to offer any sort of refund or adjustment despite the feedback.

Having read the reviews in here, I thought I'd somehow gone somewhere else entirely. Guy up front was friendly, but waiter not so much. Came off like he didn't want to be there at all and sounded like that with his other tables. The happy hour prices were low, but still a ripoff for bland, old fish. Atmosphere dingy and uncomfortable. My friend, who had been there before, said the place changed so much since her prior visits she didn't recognize it. We didn't even finish, just paid, tipped, and left. 20 minutes later we were both feeling queasy.

Our server was great. But the owner wouldn’t comp a meal that had a hair in it. The food was pretty sad. Chicken Katsu was tough and chewy. The beef yakisoba was dry and tasted like frozen steak sandwich meat. Sushi was good though.

I walk in at 8:30pm, after paying for a $35-40.oo Uber, and was not seated. Door was open, and not locked. Will not be taking my money to this sushi place ever again. As Evidence By: they did not honor their own hours. My order would have been very simple and easy to make, I walk back in to ask if even as “take out” was an option, a man with glasses behind the front booth (seated and on his phone) says to me: “she already said no, go home.” She (some lady, possibly owner) comes out again, the one I spoke to earlier, and says, “what’s your order,” I politely thank them, but will not be ordering after the words I received.

Can’t say enough about this place. It’s my go to pick up the way home and is so consistent! The sushi is one of the best I’ve had in Austin and is very fairly priced for how much but the rolls are! Love love love haiku

Love boat was kinda odd? Expected more sushi, the tempura was mid. Waiter was excellent, we've had him before and he goes above and beyond. I appreciate that the "pan fried" gyoza is a correctly made gyoza.

We have been going to Haiku for years. Tonight was the last time. The manager that “greeted” us at the door and seated us was rude and unwelcoming. The food was nowhere near the quality that we were used to having. This sushi was very sinewy and difficult to eat, especially the hamachi, which is usually delicious. The unagi was inedible. Despite there being only two other tables seated in the restaurant, the service was incredibly slow. Upon voicing our displeasure to the server and manager, we were only told by both that they would “talk to the chef.” One of our favorite little neighborhood sushi restaurants has turned us off for good.
