Half Step is perfect - no notes. The staff and management are the loveliest humans on earth. You can really tell that they love working together. Great vibes and atmosphere. Incredible cocktail program. One of the few places left on Rainey that gives you a taste of what once was.

The ice! I can tell a good cocktail bar by the ice. They had several kinds of special ice, it was a good sign. Cocktails were well balanced and delicious. I had the troublemaker with gin. Not too sweet, perfect balance for a refreshing cocktail. ? ??

We stopped in for drinks tonight while we were waiting for our food at the neighboring food truck. The bartender was super friendly, he pointed us to the Happy Hour drinks as they were the “best value” which I so appreciated. My husband ordered a modelo and was offered a lime + I ordered a ginger Paloma which was delicious. We were pointed to the water station and even the restrooms. Such great service. ❤️ We went back for a second round - another Modelo and a double patron margarita which was perfect. We enjoyed our food truck food (spicy boys— which is AMAZING btw) and had drinks on the back patio area. A perfect night.
Wanted to get drinks with a group of three on a lazy weekday afternoon and this place was perfect. Good cocktails paired with a happy hour deal. Loved the staff, you can tell they all get along really well. Also loved the subtle Nick Cage motif.

Amazing experience at Half Step. Came here to enjoy Rainey St during happy hour and got to talking to Patrick about how this was our first time in Austin and that we were looking for cool local recommendations. While we were enjoying our expertly crafted cocktails, Patrick came out and handed us an extensive and thorough list of places to check out during our stay, complete with directions!
