Let me tell you the number one reason I love this place and REALLY hope they make it back from the fire. When I was in high school, in the eighties, we would often go here for lunch. When we would get back to fifth period, people (the ones who knew) would ask, "you went to House Park didn't you?" That's because when you leave, you come away smelling like the barbecue pit - and that's a good thing in Texas. The barbecue is excellent as are all the fixings...
Don't listen to the naysayers. Want shiny new? Go - we have those and you know who they are. For serious, no-frills, real-life-in-Old-Austin barbeque, this is the place. The beef is SO tender and smoked just right. Sides are typical and delicious - and I am particular. I've been dining here since 1985 and House Park is among my top three choices in all of Austin. You can look at the decor and know this is a great choice - been here for ages. And there is outdoor seating...
Boy do I love this spot. The brisket is incredibly tender, the sausage is savory, the sauce is just right. Good sides, ample bread, pickles and onions for fixings. The folks behind the counter are friendly and know all the regulars by name. A gem.
