Hula Hut Austin is a great spot with a nice lake view. The Hula Platter was delicious and definitely a highlight. Cocktails are good, and the service was good as well, making the overall experience enjoyable.

The food has gone downhill. Our waiter was great. Other staff were so-so. The side salad they served with some dishes was soggy and did not taste good. Wish they were as good as they used to be.

The Pastor Tacos were amazing with the mango pico. Then I heard about the Thai Barbecue Nachos.. Next time.. We had a great time and had an awesome waiter too. Definitely will return often.

Been enjoying Hula Hut for decades with family and friends. It always feels like the 1st. Lakeside at its best.

Normally an enjoyable (though very busy) restaurant, Hula Hut was horribly understaffed at our lunch 2 days prior to Thanksgiving. Service was erratic and slow, and some of our food had clearly been sitting around way too long before it was brought to our table. Disappointing.

When my boyfriend showed me the place, I loved it, but once we sat down I realized that all the one-star reviews I had read were absolutely right. Still, I wanted to give it a chance and experience it for myself.
1. The host was completely clueless and instantly killed the expectations I had just from seeing such a beautiful place. He told us we had to wait 30 minutes for a table outside by the lake, but then a very kind man working there immediately told us to follow him to check availability and sure enough, there was plenty.
2. The waiter we got… no comments. He really left a lot to be desired.
3. The food… the chicken was like chewing gum; I have no idea how they managed to cook it like that. The enchilada my boyfriend ordered was… ehh, just okay.
4. The margarita I ordered tasted more like juice, but I actually liked it.

It’s incredibly obvious that the people working here couldn’t care less about anything. Go somewhere else, that’s all.

I've been going to Hula Hut for years and love the place. Last night with some friends sitting at the bar on the pier it was really empty. I ordered a strawberry margarita ($12) that the bartender just poured strawberry mix into a normal margarita and didnt even mix it. Then I ordered the stuffed avocado plate and it came out ice cold. Absolutely disgusting and so I told him to send it back. The 2nd plate came out ice cold again. I don't think these are made fresh as the insides were black and the breading was soggy. This place probably pre makes these, freezes them, and puts them in a microwave. Total fail for $22. Never going back. Hire real bartenders and have some quality control in your kitchen.

The specialty drinks like the Rosa Margarita and strawberry daiquiri were delicious. We had the fish taco and XXL beef taco. Both were excellent. The freshly made tortillas can’t be beat.

A diverse menu with both unique dishes and interesting variations on the more expected dishes. Hard to beat the location and ambiance.

The food was good and the atmosphere was festive. So why the 2 stars? Because midway through our meal they unfortunately sat a couple with two large dogs right behind me. Those customers had their dogs sitting IN THE BOOTH, which made my booth seat constantly move with their squirming dogs, who kept sniffing over and moving around. GROSS. WHY would people be so inconsiderate to bring their large dogs to a restaurant, and why would the restaurant seat them??? DISGUSTING.

Otherwise the restaurant was nice, so it's really unfortunate they would allow non-service dogs that gross out other patrons.
