I went to La Popular and found the food really tasty, with good flavor. I think the place has a lot of potential. I liked the vibe, kind of like a nightclub — dark and stylish, which I enjoyed. The only thing is that it feels like something is missing, I can’t quite say what. Also, they definitely need more staff, because right now service feels limited and things don’t flow as quickly as they should. Good margaritas

South Austin is lacking in nice restaurants but this place is a huge value add to the area.

We've been here 6 times now and love it each time. Great flavors, great drinks, and very consistent.

I have visited la popular multiple times. The food and service are always great. This last time, I visited during happy hour and paid my bill without asking for the itemized ticket. As I was leaving I went back to ask for it as I noticed it was high. Once I got the copy I realized everything off the HH menu was regular price! I brought it up and they immediately apologized saying they have to manually enter it. They went ahead and “fixed it” so when I looked at it, they only fixed one item so I mentioned it again. At the end they gave me the rest of the amount in a gift card. I’m happy they were able to fix the issue, but it is unfortunate they don’t apply true costs from the beginning and blindside customers. Per the manager some prices are not the same as what they have advertised on their HH menu on the tables! Customers, the food is really good but if you go, take a look at your itemized tickets before paying!!!

Excellent food and atmosphere. Service was a bit lackluster, but that definitely varies based on who you get as a waiter I suppose. Definitely good food.

Ambiance is always very chill, service is friendly, food is very delicious. Portions are a little smaller but the flavor is not sacrificed. Drinks sometimes take a little longer to come out but worth the wait - perfectly balanced and very obvious that fresh ingredients are used.

The service in this place is abysmal in every sense of the word. I tried it when I first opened and I thought it was decent yet expensive. Not that the price point was high, just the value was not there. Consistency started being a problem time after time to the point where I stopped coming to this place.

Honestly, the service has been more of an issue than the Food every time I come to this place. I decided to give it a second try today and it was clearly a mistake. Nothing has changed, the lack of management is clearly noticeable. Some things just never change. Not coming back to this place again.

Went 2 years ago very excited to try and food was awful and unseasoned. They gave us a gift card which was very kind. We returned again tonight and it was even worse. We left the food and tipped the server well as she was kind. We will never go back. So much better local Austin places to eat at or even Taco Bell.

The restaurant is a very solid 3 stars. It is probably the first time I've ever left a Mexican restaurant with room for dessert.

Be warned that the restaurant is cold and if you are sitting under the AC vent, prepare to shiver even in the heat of summer.

The reviews are accurate...small portions for the price and basic flavors. We ordered the guacamole to start and the enchiladas suizas and baja tacos for the entrees. Both the guacamole and the entrees came out fast but both entrees were pretty cold. The freezing cold restaurant didn't help. We both agreed the food was disappointing and would have preferred many other Mexican restaurants including some of our favorites on Mexico City.

We visit CDMX (México city) a lot. This restaurant is like many in CDMX. Great energy, cool vibe and really good food.

Everything was overpriced for such a small portion and food was salty. Don't expect complimentary chips and salsa. Service was slow and they only had a few tables to serve when we arrived which was around 2:15pm. Most disappointing dish was the combo steak and chicken fajitas my husband ordered, there were probably 6 slices of steak meat and maybe 7 slices of chicken with 4 tortillas for $34. We tried it, and will not be back.
