The atmosphere is beautiful, and the house is a gem within Austin. Sadly, the food was really bad. Like really really bad. The service was okay but the waiters had kind of an off putting vibe- there was something really off with our waiter. The only way to describe her would be “uncanny valley”.

The menu celebrates the rich culinary traditions of the South, with dishes like fried chicken and shrimp and grits stealing the show. Each bite is a comforting embrace of flavors, made even more delightful by the elegant surroundings and attentive service.

This location was perfect for a small work dinner. We were located in the upstairs dining table. The food was superb and the intimate setting made it so all 16 of us could talk without fear of disturbing other groups.

Appetizers were great, main course was okay, desert was great. Atmosphere was really cool but beware of ticks if you’re seated outside. We saw two on the table within 5 minutes.

This place gets 3 stars because we had to wait over an hour for our table and we did have a reservation. Our group arrived for our brunch reservation and were told it would be a 20 minute wait. So we went upstairs to the bar and ordered a few drinks. Over an hour later we were seated.Food was great. We ordered the biscuits, chilaquiles, fried chicken, burger, milk punch French toast, the farmhouse salad w salmon. The best one was the burger! Very delicious! We tried to order the beignets and the lobster Cobb but sadly all sold out.Service in general was slow. At the bar it took about 20 minutes to get our drinks. For the food service it was much faster. The atmosphere is cool. This is a spot for a slow brunch that takes all day. So don’t go if u have other plans for the day! Enjoy it here with the food and peacocks!Out.

Such a cool and historic house. The atmosphere is amazing and there are many peacocks on the grounds. I've been twice now and overall only about a 1/4 of the dishes we ordered were superb. The rest were either too salty, lackluster, or just ok. If you live in Austin it's worthwhile to go here at least once to see and experience the property, but the food was less spectacular than I would have expected for the price.

Beautiful restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating, including the peacocks. Music was a bit loud, but maybe we were seated close to a speaker. Everyone was nice from hostess to bartenders to servers. A bit pricey for brunch, especially for drinks. Most of the menu has eggs, which I don't eat so I got a burger. Food delicious, but I don't recommend brunch. I do plan to come back for dinner however.

Very nice place, I adore seeing the pickocks. The service is fantastic but the brunch was not the best. We tried several different options and in my humble opinion, the chef needs to make sure that his sauces are improved and taste better.

The restaurant is in a beautiful southern style mansion. The entrance is easy to miss if you drive too fast. Gorgeous building and great food. Make sure you read about the history of the building and Mattie’s family. Added some pictures and a small video of the house.

My fiancée and me went here for Valentine’s Day. It was amazing from the food to the atmosphere. I had to reserve a seat a month in advance. Seats inside go by fast.Parking: There was a peacock on someone’s vehicle when we showed up. I don’t know if any damage was done, but you should be aware this can happen.

Very romantic place. Very nice cocktails. Nice food, not 5* as a bit too much salt to my taste. Nice portion for this level of restaurant.

Mattie's has a reputation as one of the quintessential brunch restaurants in Austin, and after visiting I have to say it lives up to the hype. The restaurant is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, and turning into the property is like being transported to a gorgeous southern estate. The peacocks that freely roam the property only add to the charm. We did make a reservation about a month in advance, and I would definitely recommend against showing up without one. I was once told the wait time would be 3 hours for a group of 3 doing a walk in. We ordered:- Peppermint Rooibos Tea: Unfortunately, I had a cold on the day I visited, so I didn't get to try any of the cocktails, but the peppermint tea was tasty and piping hot. My friends both got mimosas, which actually aren't listed on the brunch menu but were offered by our server.- Fried Green Tomatoes (4/5): One of the friends I went with actually said she doesn't like tomatoes, but she enjoyed this dish. The tomatoes were crispy and the perfect portion to share with a small group as an appetizer. The tomatoes were served with a corn salad on the side, which unfortunately had wayyyy too much onion. There was so much onion we couldn't really taste the corn. I think if there had been less onion and it had been a little sweeter it would have been a great complement to the fried tomatoes.- Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict (4/5): I love fried chicken and biscuits, so ordering the fried chicken eggs benedict was a must. We all felt that the chicken could have been a little more tender, but it was nice and crispy on the outside. The biscuits were good, but not as buttery or soft as Fixe's biscuits. The benedict was served with a small side salad, which was so lightly dressed I wasn't sure if anything was on it.- Milk Punch French Toast (5/5): You can never go wrong with a sweet option to balance the savory dishes at brunch, so we decided to order the french toast to share as well. Shockingly, this ended up being my favorite dish. First of all, the presentation is gorgeous. The toast is smothered in berry compote, berries, and nuts, and then topped with a perfectly shaped ball of mascarpone mousse. The ratio of bread to toppings was absolutely perfect! Every bite had a little bit of everything, which kept it light and not too sweet. The mascarpone mousse itself was so delicious, and I think it was an incredible idea to use mascarpone instead of something like whipped cream. If I come back to Mattie's for brunch, I would definitely order this again.Overall, if you're looking for a laid-back brunch with classic southern-inspired menu options, this is the place! It would also make a gorgeous venue for a special event (we saw a wedding being set up on the back patio as we were leaving)!
