Lived near this location 15 years ago and back then ate there weekly. Decided to try it out again when we were back in town recently and it was a huge disappointment. The food was just not good. Tacos, enchiladas , and quesadillas were all meh at best. Even the queso tasted bad, which I didn’t think was possible. Easily the worst meal we had during our 3 days in Austin. Atmosphere is nonexistent with all of the construction.

We have been to Maudie's many times. The food is very good! The restaurant is going through a major remodel right now which is expected to go on for a number of months, so we were seated in a large temporary tent due to limited seating inside. It wasn't bad but that is why I only gave a 3 star rating on the atmosphere.

I'll try not to make this long. I LOVED it here. From the moment i was greeted at the host stand to the moment i walked out: the hostesses were super sweet and friendly, our server Nate was very quick and helpful. I'm asking for him next time. We had the trio appetizer with queso, bean dip and guac, my favorite was the queso. You can tell they put some work into it. The chips and salsa were fresh and spicy, which is very important to me.
I got the poblando enchiladas; they were okay, but i enjoyed it! The sauce was not my favorite but the chicken was so flavorful and not dry! Omg the rice and beans were GOOD! FINALLY, some good rice in a tex mex restaurant!!
My boyfriend got the tamales with queso and carne on top... O.M.G. DELICIOUS. So fresh and amazing. I also got a fresh lemonade: DELICIOUS as well. I kept watering it down with water so i just had lemonade all night!
I wish i couldve tried dessert but I couldn't even finish my plate. Almost everything tasted like it was fresh and made with love. Also the environment was fantastic because the workers actually looked happy to work together, help eachother and interact! The manager was very hands on on the expo line (where the plates come out), which is very nice to see; i love to see team work in a restaurant, AS EVERY RESTAURANT SHOULD. Finally, a good tex mex restaurant in Austin. (Im from Houston) Definitely coming back 🩷
I love Maudie's as much as anyone. The food has gone so down hill though. I just wish it was like it used to be when I went there in college. I miss old Austin.

They dont mention that fajitas for one does not come on a hot plate, only if you order for 2 or more. My boyfriend barely touched his food and the server didnt bother to take it off our tab even though he literally had 3 bites and decided he didnt want it so we had to pay for food that was barely even touched. The employees were yelling at each other and being aggressive and rude which was not nice to watch and extremely unprofessional. Server had a bad attitude, she seemed annoyed and like she didnt care. Food wasn't that great. Server didnt mention that the jalapenos and sour cream I asked for are a dollar each which seemed like quite the upcharge for such simple things. Queso was so thick and plastic like, maybe its made out of velveeta. Bathroom was so disgusting. Definitely do NOT recommend. There are way better restaurants with better service and food.
