Discriminatory Experience at The Mockingbird Saloon
I had an extremely disappointing experience at The Mockingbird Saloon. During our visit, the bartender treated my Middle Eastern friend with clear bias — being rude, dismissive, and ultimately insisting they leave — while treating the rest of our (white) group with normal courtesy. There was no reason for the difference in treatment other than discrimination, which was both obvious and upsetting to witness.
It’s unacceptable for any establishment to make a guest feel unwelcome or targeted based on ethnicity or background. We won’t be returning, and I sincerely hope the management takes this seriously and addresses this kind of behavior among their staff.

If I could put zero stars I would. I showed the bouncer my GOVERNMENT ISSUED PASSPORT as ID and then the bouncer proceeded to ask for a second ID????? As if the GOVERNMENT ISSUED PASSPORT WAS NOT ENOUGH. Weird… almost like it’s racially motivated. Instead of accepting it like every other legitimate establishment does, they treated me with suspicion and made the whole experience uncomfortable and humiliating. If a bar can’t even recognize a passport as valid identification, they clearly don’t understand the law or basic customer service. Won’t be back.
Chill atmosphere and friendly staff. Found it by accident. What a happy accident lol

With a name like Mockingbird Saloon the atmosphere was right on.

Didn't have a good experience here.
1) The bouncer didn't let my friends in because they had Mexican ID cards. They required them to have their passports or visa, which seems really odd. I asked why that was necessary and he said it is because they aren't familiar with foreign ID's, but why should that be the fault of the customer? They shouldn't have to be expected to carry around their visa or passport to get into a bar, when anyone else only needs their ID. Are people from other states besides Texas expected to do the same because the bouncers aren't familiar with all 50 state IDs? I also talked to someone there from Denmark, and I had seem them enter with only their ID card and no additional document.
2) There was a roach crawling on the wall by the pool table near the entrance. Then I went to the bar to get change for the pool table and I felt something scratching my arm, and I was startled to find a roach crawling from the counter on my arm. Thankfully the bartender killed it but still nasty. The entire time I was there from like 9 to 11, there was nasty smelling throw up all over the right urinal and wall. It was never cleaned up while I was there.
3) This may not be the fault of the bar but its just not a very
diverse crowd that goes there. 95% of them are frat guys, though I think they are preferred by the bartenders. At one point, I was next up to be served at the counter, when two frat came up next to me and my friend, and they other guys were served first. Not a huge deal, but just kind of fits into the first problem I listed. A bias against a certain group of people? Maybe. Didnt feel like a welcoming place to be for POC.
I will say I had a good time playing pool, but that could be at any bar with a pool table.
I love it here.

Favorite spot to watch my Texas Longhorns on campus. Great atmosphere & employees.
Disrespectful owners and waiters. Bad service and the alcohol product is also expensive than other bars in Austin.
Vegetarian options: terrible food.

I love this place! If you're on campus, it's the only place to go. And now with such yummy food also?! Unbeatable.

Very duplicitous owners. They act like you're their friend to your face but later they are super cold. Don't go here.
