I definitely would give this a 4.5 because there’s always room for improvement. However, this East Coast sensibility, and the fact that the owner is from New Jersey New York area. The weight staff are perfectly trained. They don’t miss a beat. It’s refreshing to see this in Austin. It’s not common here.I ordered the crabcake and unfortunately had to give it back because it was too salty and they said it was premixed which I find strange at a restaurant like this. Why is anything premixed it should all be made fresh and which case then it won’t be too salty and should never be added to anything in this day and age don’t people get that? After that they exchanged it and I had the muscles which were divine in a sort of Louisiana style base which is not my favorite way to eat muscles I have to say it was delicious. The bread is fantastic, and it was chalk filled with sausage onion tomato, but the muscles were juicy they I think they were New Zealand muscles or from the Netherlands not sureI’ll definitely definitely come back for the steamers when they’re in season

It was our 16th anniversary... We came for their lobster roll, which we had for the first time last year and had been craving since. We ordered the crudo, scallops and the lobster roll. They're all listed as market price, and that's my only complaint... It was incredibly expensive for what we got. The crudo was $28, the scallops (4) were somewhere around $40 and same with the lobster roll. It's good, but not what we remembered (the lobster). Nice place, laid back and enjoyable atmosphere, but I can't get over the cost.

I left so stuffed and satisfied. I probably gained 3lbs as they had the most delicious desserts (key lime pie!!!, chocolate torte, and a blackberry compote with vanilla cake). Plus their oysters were so flavorful, fresh and just scrumptious. Highly recommend their lobster bisque. In addition to the food, their staff was so knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and customer care oriented.

I came from LA traveled 45 mins by car just to try this spot and it's closed with no sign saying why....but it says it's open on the maps...

I must admit that we're pretty partial to Monger's.But as an educated diner, there is no better location for fresh seafood in the Austin area. Other than Este, of course. Different styles, but both are phenomenal!

To start off positive, the oysters/raw food items were great. Everything else was extremely overpriced and underwhelming. To start, we ordered oysters (amazing), crab cake which was just okay, and then the tuna and sea bass for entrees. The tuna was served with breakfast style potatoes which was just odd, tuna was cold, and sauce it came with flavorless. Sea bass was severely under seasoned as well with mediocre sides. Suggestion would be — maybe some more innovative side dishes for $30+ meals and focus more on the flavor profiles of your proteins, bc I could make what we had better at home...I would suggest coming for HH and the raw bar only as everything else was extremely underwhelming for the price point. Giving 3 stars bc service, drinks, and oysters were good. This is just another underwhelming experience at an overpriced restaurant in Austin.

We had a really bad time at Mongers and we're not planning to go back. There is a waitress, She was all snooty, explaining the menu like she was looking down on us. Totally felt judged. And get this, she didn't write down our order, then forgot one of our dishes. When we pointed it out, she blamed us instead of admitting she didn't jot it down.Oh, and when we asked for the check, she actually shushed us. Can you believe that?So we only tipped 10% because of the lousy service, but these guys went ahead and took 20% for the tip without any permissionParking: Parking is not good.

Fresh oysters with stinky serviceWe had ordered a soup, but it was forgotten and not served until after we had finished our entrees. When we brought this to the attention of our waitress, instead of acknowledging the oversight, she placed blame on us for not informing her when the entrees were served.Because of this bad experience, we only tipped 10%, but the waiter tipped 10% more without permission.

Food is on point every time. They have great deals like half off oysters on Wednesdays. They're slightly upscale attire but you can show up in a T-shirt and they welcome you warmly like anyone else. We like to get one of everything from the raw bar menu. Sitting at the bar and chatting with the staff is nice but if you're at a table, see if you can be seated in Dustin's section (he's amazing). If you haven't been to Mongers in this landlocked town, you're missing out.

We were looking for a new restaurant to try and got a recommendation to check out Mongers in the Hyde Park neighborhood. We visited on a Tuesday night (Halloween night and our Anniversary). We were shown to a cozy corner table inside a beautiful dining room with exposed wooden beams in the ceiling and chic lighting and gorgeous wooden floors. As we do in many places, we ordered a lot of small plates and appetizers, working through six dishes including: oysters on the half shell ($4 each), poke', daily crudo, daily ceviche, pei mussels ($18), and the buttermilk shrimp ($15). The poke, crudo and ceviche are all market priced (for us all in the mid $ teens). Our favorites were the poke' and the shrimp. For the poke', the chef seasoned the tuna with a little soy sauce and tossed the fish with white sesame seeds and black seaweed. The shrimp was lightly dipped in the buttermilk and served on a small bit of slaw. We liked the shrimp because it was not overcooked, very juicy and shrimp flavor was not masked by the buttermilk. We love oysters, and the six selections were all from the east coast including ones from Maine, Cape Cod and PEI. A good variety of sweet and salty. We paired all the seafood with a bottle of The Hermit Crab viognier from McLaren Vale in South Australia. Service was impeccable - Never obtrusive or hovering. Check this place out. It is now on our regular rotation schedule; it should be on yours too!

This is one of the best places to eat fresh oysters and perfectly cooked fish in Austin. The service is excellent, and your waiters know their stuff -- they know seafood, the chefs, the menu, and all its intricacies. I've had the redfish, tuna, and scallops and can recommend them all. They usually have something unique on their special menu worth considering. For instance, I had a halibut tomahawk steak one night that blew me away. If you decide between 2-3 entrees, they can steer you in the right direction. There are a lot of lovely regulars at Mongers, and the ambiance is just right for a fresh seafood market.
