I've had Olamaie on my list for awhile and finally had the opportunity to dine there. It was outstanding. Everything we ordered was delicious. I've been dreaming about the catfish, Red Rice Calas and my birthday dessert all week! Everything was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. It is a small restaurant in a cute little house. They do have some parking in the back. The decor and ambience were calming but once the restaurant filled up, it was very loud. That's the only reason I took off a star. The staff were great and explained and made suggestions from the menu. I felt catered to and it was great. I can't wait to go back.

This place has had a lot of hype. I went in not sure what to expect as the menu overall hadn't really caught my eye. But wanted to give it a try

The staff and service were excellent. They were very passionate, offered wonderful suggestions, and knew their menu.

We tried a lot of dishes. And every one was excellent. I was iffy on the catfish and that turned out to be an amazing dish. The oysters, tartare, beef belly, and rice balls were fantastic well.

I regret not trying the rabbit, but the porkchop was excellent.

Absolutely worth a trip.

I will be honest and say I don't like American food. I was born and raised in the city where both In N Out and Taco Bell are headquartered. When I think American food--I think cheap, greasy, fast, and awful. How can we hold a candle to duck enmoladas, pappardelle bolognese, bo ssam, undhiyu, cheung fan, bun bo hue, and countless others? They're all just better. However, Olamaie will change even the biggest skeptic. Olamaie isn't a place where the prawns accrued frequent flier miles to get to your plate or there's an edible balloon for dessert. It's actual food that's recognizable to everyone. We had the beans, beef belly, and fish dip to start. The beans were perfectly cooked, the beef belly smoky and sweet, and the fish dip reminded me of sitting in West Tisbury eating bluefish with dill I picked in the morning. Even my least favorite dish of the night transported me to a good memory. Then we had an amazing pork chop with field peas, amazing biscuits, and a zingy salad. Something about the bread, greenery, legume, and pork combination was just fantastic. It's everything you could want. And to round it all off we had a baked Texas which is hands down the best dessert I've enjoyed in a restaurant. And it was set on fire before our very eyes. Olamaie's food is identified by the kaleidoscope of colors, textures, temperatures, and flavors. The field peas were spicy--the beans were creamy and mild. There were herbal notes, crunch, smoothness, cool, and hot. Sour and sweet. It's all you could want in a meal and you'd be proud to call it yours--American--symbolizing the trials and tribulations our people have been through. And if you have colleagues who turn their noses up at the idea of American food -- think of the intelligentsia of Milan, Singapore, Shanghai, Zurich, CDMX, Madrid--take them to Olamaie to prove them wrong in the best possible way.

Incredible culinary experience! Easily one of the best restaurants in Austin. My wife and I shared the Oysters "Rockafella", Red Rice Calas, Smoked Fish Dip, Heirloom Tomatoes, Blackened Dayboat Fish, Buttermilk Biscuits, Rabbit Roulade, Flan de Queso, and a surprise birthday dessert from the kitchen. The Blackened Dayboat Fish was our favorite dish of the evening. The cocktails were also very good (in order of our favorite to least favorite): Full Feather, The Road Not Taken, Birthday Suit, and Delta Dawn.

Perfection!????

Dietary restrictions: They are very knowledgeable. Let them know, maybe prior to your visit to help accommodate.

Parking: It’s Austin, TX. Just depends on when. If very busy time of year, or slower summer months.

Dinner at @olamaieaustin came with a few highlights and some low lights:
- Heirloom tomato is no doubt the best dish of the night. The whipped butter milk perfectly balances the acidity of the last batch of summer tomatoes. Crispy furikake and poppy seed toppings bring out a burst of flavors and crisp!
- Nothing remarkable with the oysters and calas
- We found the acclaimed smoke cabbage hard to chew, yet the Chou Chou sauce elevates the entire dish. It reminds me of the flavor of shousibaocai
- The rabbit meat is too salty to my taste. The whatever syrup they are using taste like artificial sweetener and kinda ruins the dish
- The blackened dayboat fish is red snapper. Mushy, salty and fishy. We ended up enjoying the blue crab porridge more than the fish itself.
- Well, the butter honey biscuit is worth the hype. Super crispy on the outside and extremely soft inside. I wouldn’t expect less from a restaurant featuring southern food.

In short, Olamaie serves okay southern food but it definitely does not live to expectation for a fine dining restaurant with Michelin trained chef.

Btw, it’s worth noting that they charge $8 per person cake cutting fee if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary here and bringing your own cake. It’s not unheard of, but it’s usually a fixed fee of $10-15 in my past experience. It’s kinda of outrageous if you think about all you paid for is for the servers to take out the cake. They didn’t even cut it for us.

Anniversary dinner at Olamaie was spectacular! Service was on point, food and cocktails were delicious. We particularly enjoyed the blue corn hush puppies, day-boat fish and pork chop with succotash. And can’t forget the hummingbird cake! Also, they provided a few lovely touches for our special day including a complementary drink. 10/10, would visit again for a fancier occasion.

We had the best time at Olamaie. The host staff was great, but our waiter Matthew B. was tops! Very friendly, but not cheesy over the top and very attentive. We had the chicken presse, rabbit roulade, the biscuit, and cheese grits, all very very good. But the smoked cabbage was the show stealer. If you make it here and don't have it you're doing yourself a disservice.

Olamaie is a true gem! The service was incredible—attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming. Every dish we tried was absolutely delicious, reflecting a perfect blend of Southern tradition and modern flair. The flavors were thoughtfully crafted, and each bite was a delight. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall experience, making it a memorable evening. I highly recommend Olamaie for anyone looking for outstanding food and top-notch service.
