I found Open House Austin through a friend who showed me their Instagram, and I ended up signing up for one of their home buying workshops. The workshop was super affordable, relaxed, and welcoming. There was pizza, drinks, and just a really comfortable vibe while they walked us through who they are and how they support first-time buyers. After that, we started working with Jennifer as our realtor and she was absolutely amazing. She was realistic in the best way, which is exactly what we needed. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Open House is run by one of the most unprofessional agents I have worked with in decades in real estate in Steph Douglass. She went on vacation for the majority of the closing period, which caused huge problems with our appraisal appeal and re-appraisal, which I had to run on my side by myself. My lender even complained about the lack of response from the other side. Even getting the current leases was a giant ordeal. But that wasn't even the worst part. She agreed to a 3% commission split towards the buyer's agent, which was on every offer and counteroffer sent in the documents, openly disclosed and signed by her. But, with the new forms, it must also go on paragraph 12, which it was mistakenly left off of. She knew this but said nothing, then tried to force the buyer's side into forfeiting their commission, risking her seller's deal. This level of deceipt and dishonesty is something we have never encountered. When that didn't work because the buyer was prepared to walk, we got repeated insulting and threatening messages from Steph. She then was so upset that she had been forced to accept the 3% commission she had agreed to originally, that she began sending additional insulting messages throughout closing, including the day of.
In 37 years of life, I have never encountered a more unprepared, incompetent, rude, condescending agent. I would be HORRIFIED to be represented by Steph.
