The pistachio oasis is perfection. Easily one of the best cakes I ever had. We wanted a cake for our micro-wedding that our guests would love. We got several slices to try from Paper Route Bakery and from the first bite of pistachio oasis, my husband (who is not a dessert person) and I were sold! Not only was the cake delectable, but it was a perfectly cute presentation with our name and wedding date on it. The decoration is simple and classic, which fit our wedding aesthetic. Everyone was raving about how wonderful the cake tasted bc it’s not overly sweet but has a beautiful flavor. Make sure to get extra because we were so happy to have enough to eat for the next couple days after the wedding.
Chef Aaron Seriff-Culick opened his Paper Route Bakery in Austin, Texas, in 2017 and already this takeout/only operation that offers creative and innovative and delicious cakes, pastries, scones and cookies is widely regarded as the best bakery in the city. Located at 1010 East Cesar Chavez Street, it is open from 4 to 7 Monday through Friday and 11 to 4 on Saturday and Sunday. Cake is available by the slice seven days a week. For two travelers, a slice of cake or two or three is a genuine treat, even if the car gets messed with a few crumbs. But what to choose? Blueberry Snooze? Lemon Kiss? Banana Pantsuit? Coffee Fox? Pistachio Oasis? Strawberry Book Club? Chocolate Faintiny Couch? How about a slice of lemon chiffon cake with honey poppyseed crust, lemon ganache infused with lavender and limoncello, Meyer lemon and Chantilly cream? Or the flavors of the month? Blueberry chiffon cake with almond and toasted white chocolate crust, blueberry ganache infused with oat, almond, grapefruit, maple and star anise with blueberry white tea Chantilly cream. How about Terra Firma or "dirt cake?" It consists of Acai chiffon cake with ginger and toasted walnut crust, beet ganache infused with cacao, papaya, lemon grass and mint, Acai matcha Chantilly cream, dark chocolate pour-over and black truffle cake dirt. We also left with a half-dozen Peanut Butter Milk Shake Cookies. They tasted as good as they sound.
Some of the best cake I’ve ever had. I got the chocolate cake and it was so delicious! I can tell that they really put thought and care into making their cakes. It was so moist. The filling is tasty and the frosting is so creamy. At the same time, it had the right amount of decadence. The staff is so welcoming and kind as well. They even gave a sample of their strawberry cake and it was also just as delicious! A wonderful place for a dessert fix. Parking was a bit difficult but only because I came on a Sunday morning and it is right next to a church and a busy lunch rush at Cenote. Worth the visit for sure though!
The cakes here are really moist and not too sweet. I love how every cake has a lot of complex flavors that make each one unique. I've tried almost the whole menu, and the lemon kiss and pistachio oasis are my favorites. I didn't really care for the raspberry carlisle or strawberry book club.
wonderful most, dense cakes with delicately balanced flavors
My auntie labeled the Coffee Fox cake as “divine,” and I have to agree. This bakery is fantastic and the bakers are so nice. Eating here was one of the highlights of my Austin Trip. I will return every time I’m in town. Definitely go. I went out of my way and walked past several other bakeries in the November cold to get here, and it was worth it. I can’t wait to try other flavors. ?
How are there only 216 reviews for this place?! We came to Paper Route towards the end of the day and there were only two cake flavours left: Raspberry Carlisle and Banana Pantsuit. WOW, they were both amazing!!! Super moist cake, delicious filling, and perfectly made frosting that wasn't too sweet. If you're not a fan of cake, I strongly recommend you go just to meet a genuinely nice human. We didn't get his name, but the cake guy was so incredibly kind. Not only did he give us samples, but he gave us a discount because he felt the cake slices were small! Thank you so much, cake guy! If we ever return to Austin we'll definitely be back!
Fourth of July is my birthday and Aaron was awesome every time we spoke. I had called a few weeks in advance to ask some questions about it being a holiday weekend and the choices between a full single flavor cake or the individual cake slices. He gave me all the info I needed and I ended up going with the individual slices because I simply could not choose a specific flavor. They all sounded amazing! We ended up getting a slice of every single flavor except the Banana Pantsuit (personal preference), which included his seasonal coconut slice! Y'all. Y'ALL. Every single flavor was so SO good! You absolutely CANNOT go wrong with any of them. My personal favorites came down to Pistachio Oasis and Coffee Fox but in no way were the others any less delicious, only personal preference. We will definitely be returning and I will be directing anyone asking me about a good cake bakery in Austin to Paper Route Bakery. Absolutely scrumptious.Huge thank you to Aaron also for being so kind and professional!
I went to this bakery based on the numerous reviews and pictures of their cookies and scones. The first day I went by, there was a sign up that said Sold out, closed at 6. It is only open from 4-7. The second time I tried at 4:30, the man said they only sold cake slices now and most of the ones on the window menu were not available. I was told there were fewer options during the week.
We got the Chocolate Fainting Couch, and it was magnificent. If you don't buy this cake, then it's because you don't want any fun or joy in your life. I'm sad for you. WHEN you order this cake, you should order two so that you have one for your event and one to eat later after you get high. Get the chocolate on top, and have them write something on the cake. Go enjoy life. As we've all learned in the last few years, life is short. Carpe diem. Carpe crustulam. I think this is the best cake we've ever had. No joke.

Hands down the best cake I have ever had. A little on the pricey side but SO worth it!! We ordered the chocolate, coffee, and strawberry and each one was incredible.
Okayyyy but a slice (or 2) is SO worth it! I had a slice each of the coffee and pistachio cakes and both flavor combinations were on point! I loved the crust of the cake and the fluffiness of the icing. So lovely and indulgent!
We got the Chocolate Fainting Couch cake from Aaron at Paper Route Bakery. Y'all. It's the gentle warmth from a fireplace during winter. It's a smooth first date in springtime. It's flavorful and fluffy without having the sickly sweetness of a grocery store cake. It manages to be delicious without being overpowering - so in a word, elegant. It's rich without flaunting its money. And I've gotta say, interacting with Aaron was such a pleasure. He's got a clear passion for the cakes and is wonderful to speak with. Go try a slice from em today!
I HIGHLY recommend this bakery. The location is adorable, and the owner was amazing from start to finish. My birthday cake(the Vanilla Au Revoir) was exactly how I imagined, and tasted great! It was seriously one of the best cakes we've ever had, and you can tell how passionate he is about his work. We will 100% be visiting again if in the Austin area
We ordered a Strawberry Book Club cake for my partner's birthday, and I think we found the place we'll be ordering birthday cakes from for the foreseeable future. Absolutely fantastic.
