Quick and delicious food makes up for lack of seating. Order at the walk-up window, or using their mobile app. Torta and Al pastor tacos are highlights, don’t skip the salsa verde. And their French fries are criminally underrated.

I am going to be very clear that my problem is with the price, which I think it's out of the ordinary. Way too expensive. The flavor is awesome.
Pollo Regio at this location started when I was going to that high school near them, around 2003.
As a consumer, many things are hidden from me. So, maybe, I am unable to understand and would probably understand the price if I knew all the information.
The chicken tenderness, its flavor and the green sauce is what made this restaurant stand out, despite being in a dangerous location and only being a carry out place. Nevertheless, it was the place to go for a long time. I believe the price was fair at this point.
The price of a whole chicken was $10.00 back in 2003, and it was given with the onion and two sauces. At some point, if I recall correctly, rice and beans were added to the whole thing; I don't remember the date.
Naturally, the price started to go up. In 2008, it was still very affordable, despite the recession. Other things were added to their menu, like the meat by the pound, baked potatoes, etc., by 2012. Good things. From 2012-2020, the price started to go up from $15.00 to $20.00. Then after the pandemic, it's been $30.00.
The flavor is good, but when you have chicken from Sams or Fiesta at $5.00 or $8-10.00, the same portions compared to Pollo Regio, respectively, then I have to go with something cheaper. The flavor is not as good though.
I haven't eaten at Pollo Regio for about 1.5-2 years, and I don't plan to go back. I do have the desire to eat there, but I think it's way overpriced. The same applies to the other establishment Pollo Rico. The only thing is that Pollo Rico's flavor and sauce is not as good as Pollo Regio, although, it's been progressing. I haven't there in 3-4 years.
You can try to play around with the menu, and present it in many different ways. But remember your old ways. If you're overcharging your customer, just for the sake of it, at some point your customer won't come back. Look at how many establishments, greater than you, have disappeared. They also had good food.
Again, this is just from the consumer's perspective. A regular consumer, not rich, not poor, just someone who likes to administrate his finances appropriately.

I went there and ordered the meal deal for 2 chickens. I waited for 15 minutes only to get not fresh chicken and old dried out rice! I had to go back in and ask for the onion and the grilled jalapeño. The lady cashier was nice but the male guy was very rude he mumbled at me in Spanish and then called me a name. I love their chicken when its fresh but not when its been sitting under the light for hours!!

One likely reason a takeout-only spot like Pollo Regio at 6615 Berkman Dr in Austin boasts an impressive 4.8‑star rating from over 3,000 reviews is the sheer consistency and quality of its core offering: grilled (pollo asado) chicken. A glowing review on MapQuest mentions “pleasant staff, short ticket times, good food,” and specifically praises the grilled‑chicken baked potato . Another review highlights that their food “is ALWAYS on point… very delicious” .
Beyond the chicken itself, the sides and accoutrements clearly leave a strong impression. As far back as 2003, the Austin Chronicle noted the “scrumptious green avocado salsa… fiery and creamy all at once,” along with fresh homemade sides and charred grilled onions—elements that elevate a simple take‑home experience into something memorable .
Moreover, friendly and efficient service powerfully enhances customer satisfaction. Patrons have described the staff as “professional, friendly, and loads of fun,” and appreciated the speed and reliability—even when ordering delivery .
All these factors—delicious, consistent food; standout, handmade sides and sauces; and positive, fast service—combine to create a gratifying, repeatable experience that yields high ratings. For many customers, Pollo Regio’s takeout is not mere convenience—it’s a go‑to solution for quality, flavor, and satisfaction.
