Rudy’s Barbecue is one of the most unique and fun parts of Austin, Texas—where else can you get high-quality barbecue at a gas station? It’s a brilliant concept that’s both practical and delicious.
The experience at Rudy’s is always enjoyable. The service is quick, and the pit crew is incredibly friendly. I love the extra touches, like the jalapeños, onions, pickles, and free bread they offer for building your own sandwiches or pairing with their flavorful sausage. The dessert options and slices of cheese to complement the meats are a nice bonus too.
Their brisket is excellent, and the prime rib is a standout. There’s plenty of seating, and since they don’t take reservations, you can just walk right in—no hassle.
Rudy’s isn’t just about lunch or dinner. Their breakfast tacos are a fantastic option, and it’s also a great spot for a quick coffee in the morning. The attached convenience store is genuinely convenient, adding to the charm of the place.
Everything, including the bathrooms, is clean and well-maintained, making it a great all-around spot. Rudy’s is a must-visit if you want a casual, delicious, and quintessentially Austin barbecue experience.

Meat was literally cold, not warm, but actually cold. I get it's Rudy's, but still... serve warm food. Eating cold bbq, especially brisket, is nasty.

I always love Rudy's BBQ and every time I come back to Texas I make sure to get some more. One of the best ways to get your brisket is moist, hand chopped, keep the bark. Can't say enough how much I love their barbecue.

Me and my boyfriend love Rudy’s and visit this location semi often, our most recent experience was extremely off putting due to one of the employees having a very poor attitude surrounding us showing up an hour before close this past Friday. The guys working up front were very kind and efficient, but once we got out to the patio it appeared a female employee was wiping down that area. We sat down and realized we didn’t have a sauce on the table, and so my boyfriend approached the female employee asking for the sauces on the cart she was carrying. I watched as she very aggressively picked them up, and shoved them in front of her toward my boyfriends face, and said nothing. So be weary, if you show up within an hour and half of close, you might get sauces aggressively shoved in your face by a female employee on the patio.

Another barely edible sandwich from this spot. Drive on down to Smokey J’s for a much better deal on a meal.
