We love meeting friends and family here for appetizers and drinks. Food a d service is always great. Noise level makes it difficult to hear conversation with person across from you.
We were there during happy hour. The food was good but not super special. It was presented very nicely. The back room we were in was very loud.
For years we regularly had dinner before Broadway in Austin plays. We had not done that for about a year. Returning was comfortably familiar....slightly changed surroundings, slightly changed menu and a new entrance/exit plan. They have closed the side entrance so all entrances and exits are through the front door and the front dining room. We always request the front dining room because it is quieter but the constant stream of arriving and leaving guests was a bit annoying. The service was good, but a bit slower than it had been. Over all we and our guest enjoyed the experience and the food and we arrived at the play on time! Thanks
We were there ahead of the F1 weekend. The restaurant was packed. The deviled eggs were wonderful. I had the redfish and it was delicious. The old fashioned was tasty. It took us awhile to place our order otherwise the staff was attentive. Atmosphere was funky as you would expect in Austin. Parking was a zoo and the lot is awkwardly shaded with dead ends.
Food was excellent as was the service! I think next time I will ask for a table or booth inside however, as I did not like the flies bothering me, and the benches were a bit uncomfortable. Fortunately, it was not terribly hot out.
food came out lukewarm warm and all at once but otherwise great happy hour value and neighborhood vibe!
Excellent experience overall! Very good food - the deviled eggs and charcuterie board were great starters! The cheeseburger and fries were great for my picky teenage nephew, the pork belly was very flavorful and the sausage platter was delicious. We shared the bananas Foster's beignets for dessert - excellent finish for a great meal!
Food was delicious; every one loved what they ordered. The highlights were the beet salad, blackened redfish, rosemary honey chicken and bacon ribs. The beignets were very tasty.
We reserved a table for five and shared the Deviled Eggs, Duck Fat Fries, and the Beet Salad. We all had different entrees, ranging from Fried Chicken to Tacos and a Hamburger to Pork Belly. Overall, the food was excellent; however, the Candied Pork Belly wasn't what any of us expected, and I would not order it again - it was just one piece of pork with a slightly sweet crust on one side, lacking the expected flavor. The service was excellent, and we will be back when in Austin.
The Salty Sow was the perfect place to take our friends visiting from New Jersey. The service was amazing, and the food & drinks were unbelievable!

The Duck with mashed potatoes and cornmeal fried okra was fantastic. I'll be back for that one
We visited The Salty Sow on a Friday night. Parking is limited, but we lucked out and grabbed the last handicap spot. Getting onto the sidewalk was a small obstacle course thanks to the car stops, but we managed. The host was welcoming and found us a spot to wait until a wheelchair-accessible table opened up. (Yes, I made a reservation and specifically asked for accessible seating, but hey, what's a Friday night without a little suspense?) Eventually, we got a great table and an even better waiter—shoutout to Will, who was fast, friendly, and basically a restaurant MVP. We started with the truffled deviled eggs, which were just okay, but the charcuterie board more than made up for it—it was absolutely delicious. The smoked fish rillette dip, in particular, was phenomenal. For mains, I had the iceberg wedge salad, which was fresh and tasty, while my husband ordered the smoked pork shoulder with cheese grits, which he loved. Dessert looked amazing, but we were too stuffed to commit. Next time, I'm showing up hungrier—or wearing looser pants. Bottom line: The Salty Sow is totally worth the hype—great food, great service, and only a slight parking workout. We'll be back, maybe even with room for dessert.
This place never disappoints for happy hour. You get so much value. Highly recommend the fried chicken. My favorite happy hour drink has to be the Little Larry.
For making reservations you would think they would provide a little better seating. Placing us right in front of the massive box fan, as our food blew away and felt like we were in a wind tunnel the entire meal. Margaritas were way too acidic unable to drink and again too much lime in the ranch water. Drinks didn't hit the table until the food did. Which if you offer a happy hour make sure you have the staff to support such. The food was great I will give them that but honestly only thing I enjoyed.
Salty Sow never disappoints! My friend and I hadn't been in a while, but we were happy to discover that an old favorite is still delicious! Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, our food was fresh and tasty (don't sleep on the deviled eggs!) and my only regret that I didn't get one of their yummy cocktails (school night problems). Definitely recommend, especially if you have never been. Parking can be a hassle, but no difficulties parking on a Sunday night.
