I have been waiting to try this place and finally got to try it last night! There were no reservations available but we walked in and were able to get seated behind the bar seating. Usually, they do not allow for guests to order dinner there, instead would have to order at the bar, but the service was excellent and they took our order and treated us like any other guests sitting at the reserved tables. I got the virgin aperol spritz to drink, it was refreshing but sweet; a little bit too sweet for my taste. I love focaccia bread but was disappointed in this one because it was cold. I wish they had warmed them up. The mozzarella sticks (5 pieces), always remind me of my childhood days; I loved them, come with the arrabbiata and garlic ranch. The perfect crisp, flavorful breading, and stringy mozzarella cheese dipped in the two sauces made them to die for. The lumache alla vodka came with ricotta and sesame garlic breadcrumbs. The quantity was perfect for one person (both my friend and I finished our plates). The al dente pasta, to the creamy spicy sauce and the crunch from the sesame breadcrumbs made it a perfect dish to end the night with. I would definitely come back here to try the other dishes!

My East Coast raised husband has always said there's no good Italian food in Austin. Well that is no longer true. Sammie's knocked his socks off. Very very good food in a historic Austin building. The inside of the restaurant is very classy though it is a bit loud. They have a cute little patio area as well. We started with the mozzarella sticks and the waiter suggested adding on their famous Caesar salad. The mozzarella sticks were excellent. The Caesar salad had large leaves with plenty of dressing (maybe a little too much). My husband and I couldn't resist trying their Sunday special after hearing it described. The braised beef short rib meat was tender and delicious in the sauce along with the spicy Italian sausage pieces. The rigatoni was a perfect pasta to hold all the sauce and meat. The real standout was the veal parmigiana. We have never had bone in veal parmigiana. It was phenomenal. The meat was perfect. The breading was perfectly crispy and delicious. The sauce and cheese was yummy. Service was outstanding as well. We highly recommend giving this place a try.

My favorite restaurant in Austin. Outstanding service and even better food and drinks. We sit at the Bar and the Staff is the best. I enjoy every visit and recommend the Caesar salad. Meatballs, and your entree will be outstanding too as I like them all! Highly recommend a reservation. Then enjoy dessert and an espresso martini....enjoy!

Cannot wait to go back! I loved the ambiance and my Linguine Vongole was off the charts delicious! We also had the cheese sticks, burrata and Caesar salad - all were very good.

I am writing this review as my body is trying to reject the amount of salt that was in my bolognese. Borderline inedible, and in retrospect should have had the server take the dish back to the kitchen. Eating here was by far the worst decision my wife and I made on our vacation to Austin. Our experience may have been an anomaly based on most of the positive reviews, but considering the prices they charge for what they serve, this place should be more consistent.

I will say that sammie's looks to be a 5 star priced restaurant with 2 star service and crowded atmosphere. Will charge for every soda you order (coke, diet coke, or sprite were their only options). Served in a glass filled to the brim with ice and a straw that does not reach the bottom of the glass. Their food choices are overly priced for the amount of food ordered. Noodles are one of the most inexpensive foods to buy amongst any market. This place is way too overpriced and way too crowded to really be enjoyable. Trying to create an 5 star experience for the customer by having their staff work as a team bringing food out to each table in an attempt to look professional only backfired as our meals were delivered to the wrong individuals. I have to say that our server, Lindsey, really missed the mark in what would have made this experience just a tad bit better. If it wasn't enough to be over charged for some sphaghetti with meat sauce it would help if our server was more attentive and vocal about our options. Would I recommend this place for dinner more than once? Absolutely not

I’ve been here twice, and the first time was fantastic. The second time (last night) was made unpleasant by a pretty rude waitress. Our reservation was at 8:45, late, but was all we could get. We were looking forward to a nice, unrushed dinner. Instead, after we declined to buy a bottle of wine, the waitress behaved as if we were the most unimportant table in the room. At first it was a soft suspicion, but then she 1) forgot to enter in our spinach order 2) never checked on us after the food came to realize that was the case (we told her after we were finished) and 3) came by minutes later to drop the check, telling us “no rush” and then 5 minutes later took it for payment and when she realized she took it too early and no card was in the book, brought it back sheepishly. Just terrible service for what should be a top notch place.I understand it’s hard out there for service workers, but if you don’t like your job it’s best to not work it at all. I don’t think we will come back to Sammie’s for table service - the price isn’t worth it. Maybe we try the bar next time where service expectations are lower.

Went to Sammie’s for my birthday and went during the Friday lunch. The vibe were immaculate and the rigatoni bolognese was delicious. They also had NA drinks!! The Venetian spritz was yummy. But honestly? Every day I wake up and think about their Caesar salad. Every. Day.Pictured: the Caesar salad of my dreams

Finally a 5 star experience after a few duds. This was a business dinner with some colleagues from the marketing department. We were 5 of us and wanted to do stuff community style.Firstly our server Dustin. He was so knowledgeable about the food, the wine and also about the other establishments in the area. He also politely managed to up sell the group on the wine which in reterospect seems like a good decision.Appetizers:Burratta - this is likely a tie for the best burratta I've ever had. I could have gotten myself another portion.Mozzarella sticks: not your run of the mill stuff. Right level of crispiness, softness and mozzarella. It was perfect.EntreesOne was the off menu pasta (I think it was ox)The other pasta was the truffle one. Both these were on point and recommended by Dustin.Porterhouse and NY strip with broccoli. Perfectly seared, medium rare and prime meat. I don't mind paying money for a perfectly well made steak.Desserts:See the photos. I'm off sugar so didn't touch it. But the guys said they were heavenly. My mouth was watering looking at them and they did appear decadent.
