I was seeng 3 Austin Film Festival movies at the Galaxy and decided to try this walkable restaurant.
I was greeted with "sit anywhere and order from the app." OK... Then the waiter came with water. Then iced tea. Then, the order of mixed meat noodles and shumai. The noodle dish (combination lo mein) was delicious and WAY too much for one person! The shrimp are impressive in size. Vegetables are not overcooked and beef and chicken tender.
Next, the shumai... generously filled with chopped and large pieces of shrimp with delicate steamed noodle. I was taken aback that there was no del I cate shumai sauce! I and the waiter who said there is no shumai sauce. He said I could majestic some from the condiments on the table. (See pic). When I said no thank you, he brought out the table mic plus some ginger. Better but not it!
I took my time while waiting for my next film start. The waiter asked a couple of times if I wanted more water. (Might have been a good time to ask a cudtomer if they wanted dessert?)
So, now the order and pay online feeling... couldn't really tell if the "order and pay online 15% Tip/Service Fee included" is 3o% added to the bill?? There was no real service except delivery.
I will come back for dim sum on Saturdays with cart service! I have missed it since my Boston days.

Went for a big lunch with a large group of co workers on a weekend. It wasn't super crowded but we were able to get a large table with a fun lazy susan. We ordered a bit of everything to try, the dim sum was pretty good and the duck was delicious. They also have soup dumplings ordered with vinegar too that I recommend.

Had a craving for some steamed buns so I picked up their Steamed B.B.Q. Pork Buns to go. Best buns I’ve ever had! Will come back to try more of their Dim Sum.

Best dim sum in Austin. Really liked the app ordering as you could leave right after eating without waiting for the check. Could not be more impressed with the food and can’t wait to come back

You need more staff. There was hardly anyone greeting at the front.
You sent out emails to customers about a special holiday treat and for the holiday and you only have 3 wait staff. There were people waiting who just left because of the long wait to even put their name on a list.
Very disappointed.

Edit to reply to the response:
*When I went in on a Wednesday I was brought a water and then relatively ignored. I just assumed I had to order off of the QR code because that’s all there was for me. Nowhere on the app, website, or in the restaurant was an option for the mentioned lunch special. I didn’t bring up an issue because it appeared that’s the way y'all do business and the food was fine despite it being small and expensive. It wasn’t busy either, there were only three tables seated including myself. If you aim to delight, try advertising your specials more, or providing better table service. Just a thought. Good luck to you.*
Went for lunch and paid 22 dollars for only a beef and broccoli that I easily ate by myself. They are still using Covid ordering cards on the table that make you use your phone to order, which was odd and cumbersome, but I didn’t have to wait for the check at least. The food was mid in flavor with expensive small portions. Apparently, the dim sum is good but the Chinese food was such a let down that I won’t be going back.

Mandatory 15% service charge without disclosing. Nope!

Mandatory 15% service charge because they won't let me order except in an app. Vote with your feet and wallet!

The pork soup dumplings were good but after finding shrimp in an item that the menu did not state would have shrimp I won’t return.

Ordered for pickup but the store was closed before the listed closing time. Will have to dispute through my credit card company. Quite frustrated.
My wife and I hadn't had dim sum in a while and tried Shanghai Restaurant for the first time today. Everything was good. We had steamed bbq pork buns, steamed custard buns, sesame balls, shrimp shumai, baked egg tarts, pork ribs, shrimp stuffed eggplant (my favorite, very good), bbq pork rice noodle rolls, congee, sticky rice with chicken, zhaliang/fried two, and oolong tea. Portions/sizes were good to generous, everything was fresh. The service was good. Absolutely worth a try if you're in the mood for dim sum.
