Long lines, food isn’t great

Adam Jones

Swedish Hill is where breakfast goes to get a glow-up and make the rest of your meals feel like peasants. Yeah, the line’s long—but it moves fast, and you get to ogle the pastry case like it’s a dessert-themed art gallery. I saw more beautiful salads in there than on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Instagram. The ham-and-cheese croissant? Flaky perfection. The cinnamon bun? Basically a warm hug from a Scandinavian grandma. The Americano was so smooth I’m convinced Juan Valdez himself brewed it shirtless. Pro tip: don’t sleep on the tacos—eggs were silky like they had a skincare routine, and the bacon was so fancy I half-expected it to have a trust fund. 10/10, would elbow a hipster for a seat again.

It's just a place for an Instagram like. Food is alright at best. You definitely can go somewhere else for better food at a better price. The place is very pretty, though!

Place is amazing but they need to do something about the flies!

The Chicken Salad Pesto Crunch on a croissant is really freaking good.
This location has dedicated parking and quite a few interior and exterior seating. Primary downside is the cost. This is more pricey than your average bakery and cafe.

This spot is so well done, and tastefully designed. It’s perfect for working, meeting with friends, or a chill spot at any point during the week. Friendly/helpful staff, and clean environment. Loved it!

They’ve really created a beautiful atmosphere here. Everyone who works here is so kind — Hunter took such good care of us too! We’ll definitely be back.

Best location yet! Spacious and a nice place to sit down inside or outside to eat brunch or lunch. Food is super fresh and healthy for the most part. Their baked goods are a great bite as well along a coffee or tea.

Their newest Austin location is lovely - modern decor, beautiful garden and fun atmosphere. Their shared space with Heath ceramics makes it a fun spot to visit. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

Areas for improvement:
- check-out line: although there is one checkout line, there are multiple “check out” points but difficult to navigate/cross through due to tightness of the line. Also, staff was not clear in communicating when they were open.
-food quality: pastries were tasty but quality was mediocre. The everything croissant was not flaky nor layered and rather doughy. Also, the amount of cream cheese inside the croissant was minimal. Bagels were fine but the eggs were the highlight. Perfectly cooked!
- family bathrooms: they’re clean; however, there is no changing table. We unfortunately had to change our little one on the ground (thank goodness we had a pad to use)

A good friend of mine recommended this place, and since it’s right near my usual barbershop, I decided to give it a try. The vibe and setup are really nice—plenty of seating whether you’re coming solo, with family, or on a date.

I grabbed a Swedish Iced Coffee and was definitely not disappointed. It’s a great mix of coffee and coconut that hits the spot. I wanted to grab some lunch too, but honestly, the number of flies buzzing around the pastries and salads made me think twice. The food looked great, but having bugs flying and landing on it isn’t something I’m okay with.

Overall, this place has a lot going for it, but they really need to get a handle on the fly situation. I’d love to come back once that’s sorted because the coffee and atmosphere are worth it.

This place is a window to Europe :)
Delicious pastry (I’m a home baker and can tell for sure - their laminated pastries are top notch!).
The salad bar offers a variety of healthy options and the dressings are very good too.
The sourdough bread is just what it’s supposed to be - full of flavor and aroma, yet not overly tangy or acidic.
The service is great-nice, friendly and helpful even on busy weekend mornings.
My only complain is that there are so many flies over there…
Other than that - I’ll be returning there to try out other food too.
Thank you!

The pesto and tomato salad was good. They really need to do something about the flies flying over the pastries. Cushions on the outside were stained. The parking situation is a little tough so plan accordingly.

To say that I was surprised when this came out for $16.00 is an understatement, I was so underwhelmed. Are you seriously telling me that they served plain white bread...not even toasted, and that there were more chips and bread than actual chicken salad on the sandwich, and to top it off the chicken salad wasn't even that good or anything special that would separate Swedish Hill from a Walmart Deli. For a place that prides itself on baked goods and fresh foods, this was by far disappointing and to be charging $16.00 for a sandwich, bruh this sandwich was worth $4.95 in plastic wrapping. Clearly, I am upset, but in this economy if you are going to be charging that much for a sandwich...like give it something. I miss Foxtrot, bring her back. Overall, I would not come back and wouldn't recommend coming here for lunch with friends. It's a good study spot, but that's about it.

Apologies for complaint about the price, but nothing aggravates me more than spending money on an expensive item that is not-good food.

P.S. I would suggest investing in rotating fans for the tables/bakery items to lessen the amount of flies crawling all over the food.

Love Swedish Hill! The staff and food / drinks are amazing. However I took a star off because this space has really bad acoustics and gets very noisy even when it’s not totally full.

Could not be happier to have Swedish Hill in our neighborhood! We will be getting our fresh baked bread from here moving forward, we so needed a place like this in Bouldin!

Had their whole chicken family meal tonight and it was 10/10 incredible. The staff were so nice and friendly! We’ll definitely be going back often—my only wish is that they stayed open later, like at least until 9 PM 😉
