Have had many omakase experiences in many countries including Japan and what I love about Tare is the attention to detail high quality product and amazing service. The staff are so friendly and down to earth I felt like I was just chatting with my boys from the neighbourhood. Some places can be so stuffy or have lots of rules which kill the experience but I did not feel rushed here and had an awesome laid back time with exceptional ingredients. I liked the innovative use of local flavours- it elevates the experience. The office bldg location is weird but also reminds me of back alley mystery places in nyc there are 12 seats max and 2 seatings per night so its very intimate. I would come back just to talk to the chefs and try something new!

This was genuinely one of the best omakase experiences I’ve had,
I’ve travelled all across the world and even had omakases in Japan but this was genuinely excellent the Mexican influence in some of the dishes was phenomenal and the tostada was a unexpected delicacy the service was great the pace was excellent and the employees were extremely personable funny and knowledgeable
The Fish quality was impeccable and everything was excellently paired this is a 5/5 in my book and I would highly recommend it to anyone who

To caveat this, I have never been to an Omakase before.
The location is interesting, I don't mind that it was in a random office building as it lended into some bit of mystique. That being said, the kitchen, in spite of the decor, still gave me corporate feels and made me feel like I should be logged into work. Music choice was phenomenal and the right vibe. We generally were not rushed, at least it didn't feel this way.
Here's more of my reasoning for the low stars: this was mexican fusion omakasa - not something I read or saw. Many plates had some sort of salsa. One course was even a tostada. While I appreciate that their website said they use local Texas produce, fusion was not expected. They put chorizo on a beautiful scallop - thinking back I almost wish I dusted it off. The fusion took away from the quality of the fish, which from the looks of it they put a lot of work into. I believe maybe 2-3 courses that night did not have fusion. We had maybe one or two courses with authentic wasabi - just think that was a bit underwhelming. The fish was fantastic, delicious, perfect but so many of it was crowded by salsa, avocados, Serrano. On a normal day I love these flavors, but what I've appreciated the most about Japanese cuisine is it's simplicity and focus on flavor from quality. Sorry Chef if I missed the vision here.
The other reason I gave lower stars: there was no experience here. It was them putting the course down in front of us, telling us what it was, and saying what it was but not delving further. Maybe I missed it where I was sitting but I would've loved to have learned more about the traditions of Japanese cuisine or where the fish came from or why it's cut this way or that way. Instead, it was forced conversations (where are you from, what are you celebrating) to fill the silence. There was another party there who definitely chatted more, but much of that was personal chats. Only found out that the caviar was from Uruguay because someone asked - meanwhile in the beginning we're told all the fish comes from Japan (just using this as an example for an opportunity, talking points for your future guests). Or even why they decided to go down such a hard-core route of Mexican fusion?
I will throw in there, the drinks were great. Not strong by any means, but flavors were very interesting.
Again, the fish was great, if you could taste it under all the fusion. Also if you're a chatty person, maybe come here so you can fill the room with a bit more personality. Overall, I didn't see the value here in $200+ per person.

We had the best experience at Tare! From start to finish, everything was flawless. The sushi was hands-down the best we’ve ever had — every bite was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The drink menu was just as impressive; each cocktail was unique and perfectly balanced. My husband ordered the A5 Washed Old Fashion and I tried both the Ancho Rita and Lagu Daiquiri. 👌🏻👌🏻
The atmosphere was elevated yet inviting, and the service was incredible — warm, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Austin, this is it. Tare is a must-visit, especially for a special occasion.
Thank you to Chef Michael for creating something super unique and to Chef Vinny for taking care of us all night.
Highly, highly recommend. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

2 thumbs up, 5 stars, all the high fives. This was amazing. I’ve had Michelin-star sushi, and this was so much better—such a fun environment and such a fun South Texas twist. I can’t wait to come back. I’m already dreaming of the matcha tres leches cake. They were also very accommodating of my shellfish allergy.

Amazing meal and service and great people! It was our first omakase and it didn’t disappoint. Pricey for us though. Two people and three drinks plus $80 tip was over $500.

Amazing food and experience. Cousins and I were in town for Motogp weekend and we booked a few weeks ahead of time since some of the group never had omakase. The food was outstanding and the Chefs were knowledgeable and engaging (all of them had a wicked sense of humor too). Bartender knew his stuff and his drink suggestions were on point. I can’t recommend this place enough and we’re already talking about coming back next year.
