Tarka's food is tasty, but inconsistent. Once the menu offered - and we ordered - Gobi Manchurian: it was delicious, but it has never available again (if it was, we'd order it again). Most recently, the Chana Masala tasted flat and apparently had no cardamom, although cardamom is an essential ingredient (but it is expensive!). Tarka offers spice level customization and vegetarian/vegan options, but those entrees are very starch heavy - mostly potatoes and beans. The two fresh salads offered aren't vegetarian/vegan. However, you can always order a $3 side of raw veggies or kabob veggies. We enjoy and appreciate the rice with added cumin seed and the vegan lassis.

I ordered a vegetable biryani extra hot among other dishes, I got a half filled box of spiced rice and no vegetables, it was not even mildly spicy. Probably the worst vegetarian biryani ever. The delivery cost me about $15 for this waste of food.

Biryani was very bad. Too much spices with cloves and black pepper. Not gr8

We were here for the first time and ordered paneer tikka masala, chicken biryani and butter naan. We asked for mild spice and it was mild. Food is mediocre. We have eaten much better Indian food.

Tarka is hands down my favorite spot in town, but Luis is the reason I keep coming back! The food is always a consistent 5/5, but the service Luis provides is next level. He’s incredibly fast, super friendly, and knows the menu so well he can practically order for you. He handled our checkout with such great energy and truly kept the vibes immaculate. If you're stopping by, pray that Luis is on shift!

The price isn't high but the Tikka masala I ordered wasn't good... It tastes like pure tomato sauce...
DO NOT EAT HERE. Roaches in the food and the Food license is expired.
I visited Tarka for the first time today. Ate a portion of my meal and then decided to get a to-go box.
After scooping my bowl, I found a dead cockroach at the bottom. Ick! It was so disgusting to find this AFTER eating my meal. Upon leaving, I also discovered their food operating license is expired.
I will never visit this restaurant again.
I’m new to Austin and was pleasantly surprised by how much my family liked this place. It’s a casual restaurant which comes in handy when going out with two little kids who are starving. We ordered, sat down, the kids food came out first which was helpful, the lemonade that came with the kids meal was so yummy. My girls got the chicken strips and fries. The fries usually come with spices on them but because we hadn’t tried them before I had the spices put on the side just in case. The quality was really good and it was a great price for a kids meal.
My husband and I both ordered the Tikka Masala, medium heat and it was delicious. The flavors were great and the garlic naan was very good. I recommend ordering more naan than you think because it’s just that good. Will be returning and had a great first experience.
