Despite the name, this restaurant has more than dumplings, and they have fewer dumpling types that I had expected. The food is good, but not great, but the restaurant is clean and a nice place to hang out. The secret sauce healthy fungus is probably my favorite dish here. They have another dish called celery peanuts, that is pretty self-explanatory. I have never had it, but I’m so curious. Unlike a lot of Asian restaurants, their menu is not so big that it takes an hour to go through and decide. I prefer this.

Dumpling King: A Royal Disappointment
Dumpling King promised a feast of flavorful dumplings, but instead delivered a culinary catastrophe. The ambiance resembled a brightly lit fast-food joint rather than a place to savor delicate cuisine. While our water glasses remained consistently full (it was self administered from a jug), the same attention was sorely lacking in the kitchen.
Our meal began with two soups. The lamb soup, while possessing a decent broth, contained a meager amount of lamb – a few slivers swimming in a vast, watery expanse. The hot and sour soup was a truly bizarre experience, possessing a strange, unidentifiable flavor profile unlike any other I’ve encountered. It was bad.
Hopes weren't lifted by the main courses. The chicken and mushroom soup dumpling, a dish we eagerly anticipated, was a complete misnomer. It arrived sans soup, a dry, doughy pouch with a vaguely chicken-mushroom flavored filling in a dry internal conglomerated sphere (blob) without texture. The real low point, however, was the fried salt and pepper shrimp. Greasy, overcooked, and utterly flavorless, the shrimp were a tragic example of culinary malpractice that left behind a bland, oily residue. It’s like the fryer was at a low temperature and the shrimp were left in the grease way too long. The promised salt and pepper were nowhere to be found. The accompanying jalapeños were sliced in a variety of widths, an inconsistency that, while minor, added to the overall sense of haphazardness.
Even the condiments failed to impress. The chili oil on the table reeked of burnt spices, a clear indication of inattentive cooking.
Dumpling King reigns supreme only in disappointment. With its lackluster food, fast-food décor, and questionable condiments, it’s a dining experience best avoided. While the full water was delivered in a carafe which was to be appreciated, they couldn’t compensate for the truly dismal meal. This king needs to abdicate its throne.

Clean and friendly atmosphere. Some kind of hand pie that tasted more south of the border than Asian due to the carnitas like filling and chopped jalapeños. Nice and flakey with juicy filling.

Was one of my favorite dumpling places- great, authentic taste with some of the best vegan dumplings in Austin. However, I just learned that they took them off the menu! Very minimal vegan options now, so if you were going for that, just wanted to let people know. I’d happily change this review to a 5 star if they brought them back. 💕😭
Vegetarian options: Removed vegan options from the menu, but the staff is very knowledgeable.
Dietary restrictions: Lack of vegan options now since they got rid of the vegan dumplings

Food was absolutely horrible. The chicken was cold and chewy and broccoli was uncooked. The spicy soup with Brisket had 3 pieces of meat that was more fat than meat
Should of left when we walked in and no one else was there at 630.

Restaurantji Recommends
Placed order online show fungus to be 6.99 when I arrived my order didn’t go through ok happens but when I ordered the fungus again I was charged 9.99 so I showed them the online price and they just smiled and said that is different and refused to give me the $price difference so I grabbed a menu and there is no price listed I would be wary being charged whatever they decide price is at the time service people are lil condescending the food 1-10 is 4 nothing at all special it’s good but far from great probably would of went back some time if had refunded the $ but since they played dumb I wouldn’t recommend it honestly there much tastier dumpling restaurants in the area any way good luck you need it. Ogh and order online if do go it’s cheaper.
