This place is a couple blocks from my office building next to the capital. First they had me at the name Tastea deli. It’s way clever because they have boba tea. But the best part to me is they have all different kind of sandwiches. Hot or cold. They toast them. Their broccoli cheese soup is really good and I can’t wait for the colder weather to get here so I can get it again. The people who work there may be the owners but that are the sweetest ladies. They always remember me.

If you're visiting the State Capitol by yourself, or with out-of-town guests, at some point you're going to get hungry.
One block away from the Capitol, at 922 Congress Avenue, is the Tastea Deli. It's a small family-owned business led by Grace Yom.
My wife and I stopped in for lunch and tried a few of their sandwiches and specialty beverages. The deli may be small, but the tastes are big!
All sandwiches are offered in three sizes - 4.5, 7 and 10 inches. We chose The Italian and the Chipotle Ham and Turkey Sandwiches. I tried their Strawberry and Banana Smoothie and my wife had the Kiwi Pomegranate Iced Tea.
What I noticed first about both sandwiches, was the extremely fresh bread. The bread held the sauces well and did not break apart.
My wife does not eat a lot, and her small sandwich was the perfect size. She gave me a bite and the meats really blended well with the Chipotle dressing and veggies. They did not oversauce it.
I loaded up my 10-inch Italian with all the veggies they had except for jalapeños. I went with banana peppers instead. The meats included capicola, pepperoni, salami and ham, as well as provolone cheese. Tasty blend of flavors, sauces perfectly with their house Italian dressing.
My smoothie was also really good. They sell a ton of smoothies according to Grace (See picture for other flavors) My wife also loved her tea. They ask you the level of sweetness you want in it, and if you want it with boba.
Other items to consider trying are the Chicken Ranch, Roast Beef and the Chicken. Prices range from $6.50 - $11.50. I am trying the Beef Dip on my next visit.
From outside, the corner space is pretty unremarkable, just a faded green awning with an old Quizino logo burned into it. A small sign says you've arrived at Tastea Deli. Inside it is sparsely decorated but clean, and the staff is very friendly.
Last thought: On a small table in the corner of the restaurant sat a Bible opened to the Gospel of Matthew. I asked Grace about it. She simply said, sometimes people just need some good news. If that's not your thing, ignore it. Grace and her team will make sure you leave with your belly full with good food.
And seriously, get a smoothie...soooo good!

Had a small Italian sub and tiger brown sugar milk with boba, it was yummy. I went with my 7 month old baby, and we found the place welcoming and peaceful. The ladies making the subs were warm and friendly.

Finally found it! The right type of deli and it was so worth it. The prices are great for what you're getting too. I had the chicken guacamole sandwich. Absitively delicious! They even have gyros....WHAT?!

I don’t want some fancy, upscale sandwich shop like the others downtown—I want this! This deli feels homey and will now be a staple of my lunch rotation. Prices and portions are reasonable, service is fast and friendly, and you can even take your sandwich for a walk to the nearby capitol park.

Tried this gem today and WOW! The Italian sub was incredible—soft, pillowy bread with just the right chew, flavorful meats, and crisp, fresh veggies. The ladies inside were super sweet and polite, and the service was lightning fast. From gyros to boba teas, slushies to salads—they’ve got something for everyone. Perfect spot for a quick bite or your next corporate lunch. Highly recommend!

Great simple little deli with perfect prices. Super excited to have discovered this spot! I got a gyro and the lettuce was extremely fresh and the flavor was good. Will return here often.

Hopped in for a quick lunch at work, and I can’t wait to come back. The sandwich is soooo delicious and the tea was absolutely amazing. The service was excellent and fast, and the prices are really good for downtown Austin. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for a light bite and a nice drink.
