Despite old fashioned karaoke system and its limited list if songs, this is a great venue in Austin.

Have been going here for years, recommend people all the time, have had private parties, and am a semi-regular for heavy karaoke nights. The atmosphere is always “meh”, KJs don’t seem to know how to queue songs in a way that either follows a logistical pattern or pays tribute to crowd management/entertainment value. Recently got kicked out for accidentally having my friend’s glass bottle not make it into the trash. Cleaned it with napkins by myself (OSHA hazard), and some barback acted like the world was ending while I tipped double my tab. Pathetic service, food is always mediocre, and atmosphere severely depends on more beloved bartenders. Overall, Austin has significantly better karaoke joints.

If you like to have fun and enjoy kareoke, dont go here. My friends and I came here, the bouncer said we were too drunk to come in when, we had just started the evening, maybe 1 drink in each. It was my first time in Austin and I was very disappointed. We were a group of 6 and not obnoxious but walked up laughing, giving the impression had been over served.

Never again. Rude, unfriendly and unprofessional staff (except Oscar). Terrible and tense atmosphere. The only good thing is the Karaoky..Never again

Really wanted to try Karaoke here for my birthday. Booked a room thinking more people were coming. Once I found out we weren’t gonna be that many people coming a tried calling to cancel but no answer. I finally got through and they told me without a 48 hour notice they have to charge for the entirety of the hours booked even though we weren’t gonna make it. We were actually planning on still going to karaoke here even without the room but that was too much money to take for nothing received. The worst part is no one disclosed the policy when I booked the room. Not the kind of disappointment you want on your birthday.

If I could give negative stars I would.

Terrible customer service, you should have friendlier staff.

Horrible customer service. Rude staff. Will never come back. Would rather do karaoke in my car on the way to work.

I’m incredibly sad because Common Interest used to be one of my favorite places in Austin. I’ve had some really special and memorable times here, but unfortunately, last night the bouncer Dre and door manager lady completely ruined any good experience at the bar.
My friends and I rented a small room for my friends birthday from 10-12. We had so much fun and really loved our server, so big thank you to her for being so kind.
At 12, when our time was up in the private room, we moved to the general area to have a couple more drinks before leaving. My designated driver arrived at 11:45, and at this point he had had no drinks that night because he knew he was driving and he had just come from work. I knew we were going to be there for a little while longer, so I ordered him ONE beer. He was halfway through the beer when we went outside to the front. While we were out there two grown women who were black out drunk proceeded to objectify and feel up my DD, which obviously was not ok and I told them as such. They were allowed back into the bar, and went straight over to have a laugh with the bar manager, so I’m assuming they must be friends.
We went back in a few minutes after those women and the door manager Dre immediately stopped my DD and said that he couldn’t come in because he was too intoxicated. What?
I tried to reason with this man but he was immediately incredibly rude and provoking. He told me and my friend that we were allowed back in even though, objectively, we were incredibly intoxicated! I was extremely angry as we had paid for a room and tipped accordingly and now we were being treated with such vitriol for seemingly no reason, so I went and found our server from the room to clarify that my DD had had no drinks in the room. As soon as I went to talk to the server, the door manager immediately came up extremely hostile and started an altercation with me. I know, I probably should’ve just left, but I had just bought a drink that I had not even taken two sips out of and my DD WAS SOBER so I wanted some answers.
This door manager proceeds to tell me she has proof that my DD had 5 drinks on his tab which is really funny because he had no tab open at all. When I demanded to see the tab, she immediately pivoted and said my friends boyfriend bought him multiple drinks, which is also funny because that man only had 2 drinks on his tab because he had arrived only 20 minutes before this altercation. I demanded proof for that as well and then she pivoted to my DD being on drugs, which is also really funny because he is drug sober!
What’s even more hilarious is, during the course of the night, I saw women passed out on the floor in the bathroom who were served alcohol even though they could barely stand or were incoherent and crying.
So, Dre and door manager, I’d really like to know your bouncing process and I’m sure the TABC ethics department will too!
