RaaaaaaaaD place. Go here for a good time
My husband and I visited here during a Christmas Pop-Up. It was crowded! They had a fun Christmas band and everyone was having a great time. They had clean bathrooms, quick service, and a fun atmosphere!
I love a good dive, especially ones with photo booths and Malort.
Our first night in Austin with nothing to do had us looking for music and we found a small showcase at Hole in the Wall. The place wasn't too full, the sound for the bands was good, everyone, staff and patrons, were incredible friendly.
For a good time, find the Hole in the Wall
On 12/18/2025, the male bartender treated me and my friends with complete disrespect. He accused us of having a fake ID without even checking it and kicked us out immediately. I’m a bartender myself, and behavior like this dishonors the entire bartender community. I’m from Michigan, and even bars on 6th Street provide far better service. Management needs to address this—customers deserve respect, and this kind of treatment is unacceptable.
Been all over the country and never had a bar say my id was fake refused me service without scanning or asking for a second opinion at the very least, a rude and terrible server and I wish I knew the bald headed man’s name to tell you who gave me some of the worst service I’ve had in my 27 year of life.
I paid 15 bucks in cash for karaoke by the door, but the karaoke was closed!!!
This legendary location is where many young UT freshman get their first alcoholic beverage some may prefer to refer to them as spirits when they come from this place. Back in my day, they didn’t seem to care much about IDs. I don’t know how they get the drinks today. But the first drink I ever had at this bar was something called a mind-eraser, which was recommended by the bartender. The enlightening beverage consists of a shot of Kahlúa and a shot of vodka combined. Since then, I’ve seen many great live music show and many a fantastic scene at this bar and live venue. The place is known for its very dirty men’s restroom. I think it has been mentioned plenty of times around these reviews and in movies or documentaries. It’s a lot of fun to see an upcoming musician play on the front stage with the street scenes and people walking by the large window. Also fun to see the medium bands in the backstage with a little more sound. While you’re there take a look at all the interesting street art on the walls at the hole.
Super dope bartenders
Keeping Austin weird,
Still going strong 💪
A staple in the live music scene. Cold beer, good live music, what more could you ask for.

One of my favorite dives. Attentive bartenders and great music. Thank you Hole In The Wall!
Great choice!
Great place if you like the more dive bar atmosphere mixed with karaoke in back and live music in front. My favorite spot in Austin so far!
Great name. Good vibes. They put on good bands. Bartender was nice.
Great spot near campus. No frills. Shots and beers. Simple :)
